1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Our number one spot goes to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. While the series started out as a continuation of sorts of the 1992 film, it turned the title into something of much more value. The series follows Buffy Summers, a 16 year old girl who has been chosen as The Slayer, a hero destined to fight the vampires, demons, and forces of darkness that plague the planet. After being kicked out of her old school the teen moves to Sunnydale California, a hot spot for supernatural activity. There she meets Willow Rosenberg, a meek girl with a penchant for good grades, Xander Harris, a clumsy boy with a tendency to get in trouble, and Rupert Giles, Buffy's Watcher tasked with mentoring and training her. They quickly learn that the town sits atop a Hellmouth, a mystical hotspot for supernatural activity, and are tasked with keeping the town, the people, and the world safe from the evil that dares to harm it. Along the way they are joined by many allies including Oz, a werewolf, Angel, a good vampire, and Anya, an ex-demon. The series watches it's characters grow from inexperienced teenagers, to heroes with the power to save the world, often using it's monsters as catalyst for real world problems faced by everyday youth.
