Reading a good book is like being around an inspiring person which makes us observe inspiring actions, feel contagious passion and desire to live a better life. In this article I am sharing my views on books that have changed my mindset and helped me to grow and live a better life.

These five books from different times, different genres, written by different authors, covers different topics, but one thing they all have in common is the wisdom and valuable insights they share which when applied can dramatically change your life.

1. The Road Less Traveled — M. Scott Peck

This book written by famous American psychiatrist and author M. Scott Peck and holds a Guinness World Record. Favourite quote from the author is-

“Until you value yourself, you won’t value your time. until you value your time, you will not do anything with it.”

It is a spiritual classic, combining scientific and religious views to help you grow by confronting and solving your problems through discipline, love and grace.

Beginning with the memorable line, “Life is hard,” the book explores the idea that overcoming difficulty begins with accepting it, a concept that has since become a cornerstone of psychology and the self-help profession.

Peck examines gloomy topics like the myth of romantic love, evil, mental illness, and death, all the while referencing his own struggles, making the insightful revelations all the more profound.

2. Rich Dad Poor Dad — Robert Kiyosaki

In today’s world, financial literacy is as important as spiritual growth and personal development. Financial literacy is having the knowledge and understanding of financial principles to manage money in a wise, and effective manner.

In this book the author keys in on one basic aspect of money management that is as simple as it is profound:

Poor people work for money, rich people make money work for them. While most individuals spend their lives piling up debt, the financially astute focus on asset accumulation.

In this book, Robert illustrates the point with stories from his childhood and the contrast between his father, the ‘poor dad’ and his part-time employer turned mentor, ‘rich dad’ to excellent effect. The result is a memorable read full of invaluable insights that can be used by anyone, regardless of their income level or station in life.

3. The Prophet — Khalil Gibran

This is the which book deeply impacted me and moved me spiritually.

In this book Khalil Gibran makes use of 26 prose poems to tell the story of an old man on the verge of returning home after years in exile, imparting his knowledge in sermonised form to a gathered crowd.

The Prophet provides timeless spiritual wisdom on a range of subjects, including giving, eating and drinking, clothes, buying and selling, crime and punishment, laws, teaching, time, pleasure, religion, death, beauty and friendship. Corresponding to each chapter are evocative drawings by Gibran himself.

4. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck — Mark Manson

Finding something important and meaningful in your life is the most productive use of your time and energy. This book really changed my thinking in a great way.

The basic premise of the book is that people care too much about the wrong things and not enough about those which really matter.

This book challenges the conventions of self-help by inviting the reader to NOT try, say no often and embrace negative thinking. This book is about being comfortable with being different and caring about something more important than adversity.

5. The Alchemist — Paulo Coelho

“The most simple things in life are the most extraordinary.”

This book is a full pack of lessons. The chief essence of the book is to follow your dreams and that your journey is far more important than your destination.

The book also exhibits the contrast between the lives of people who realise and fulfil their purpose with those who allow themselves to be sidetracked and Don’t achieve their goals.

The Alchemist” is the story of a shepherd boy from Andalusia who dreams of travelling the world in search of a treasure, and then begins an amazing journey of a young boy chasing his dream. The shepherd boy travels to the Egyptian desert, where he meets the Alchemist. The protagonist Santiago realises his dreams and follows them whereas his father and crystal merchant don’t.

I hope reading these books be helpful to you as well.
