My Personal Recommendations

In this article, I will be recommending four anime titles to those of you who are interested. These titles are ones that I have either completed or am still watching. So sit back and enjoy yourselves.

The first recommendation I have is Ranma ½. Ever wonder what you would do if you found yourself in a situation that caused you to become the opposite sex? Well, that is the plot of Ranma ½. Ranma Saotome is a 16-year-old martial artist who leaves his home in Japan to go to China with his father to train. While training in Jusenkyo, Ranma falls into a cursed pond. Now, he turns into a girl whenever he is splashed with cold or room-temperature water; hot water changes him back to normal. Ranma's father arranges for him to be married to his old friend's youngest daughter Akane. Needless to say, they don't really get along all that well. I encourage you to watch Ranma ½ because I personally think it is really well written. The story-line is amazing, and Ranma and Akane both have impressive character developments. This anime is the perfect mix of the "slice of life" and Shounen (action-packed anime). If you are interested, this show can be found on Hulu.

If you like magical girl series, I highly recommend Sailor Moon. It's about a young girl named Usagi Tsukino and how her life is changed after meeting a talking cat named Luna. Together, they must find the other sailor scouts and the silver millennium crystal, while also saving the world from Queen Beryl and the other evil henchmen. For those of you who want a close manga adaptation, check out Sailor Moon Crystal, as it follows the manga a lot closer than the original 90s version. Both are found on Hulu, and I believe the 90s version may be on Netflix. However, the original 90s version has a total of five seasons and three movies which you can buy at FYE or online.

Ever wonder what happens to you after death? Some believe in Heaven and Hell, others believe in the afterlife. Let me introduce you to Death Parade. Whenever someone dies, they are sent to Quindecim, a hotel-bar like place with many employees called arbiters. Arbiters put the deceased through a trial via games that are chosen at random by a roulette. While the games seem harmless, they are meant to bring out the inner darkness of the players and help them realize they're dead. Based on the judgments of the arbiters, the players are then sent to reincarnation or the Void. Death Parade can be found on Hulu, Crunchyroll, Funimation, and possibly Netflix.

What would you do if you woke up one day and found yourself as a kid again? That is Shinichi Kudo's problem in the police anime Meitantei Conan, also known as Case Closed. In this anime, 17-year-old Shinichi Kudo is living out his dream of becoming the greatest detective in Japan. He's known as the modern day Sherlock Holmes. When an investigation turns wrong, a member of the Black Organization gives him a test drug called Apotoxin 4869 that's meant to kill him. However, it shrinks his body instead. Now going by the name of Conan Edogawa, Shinichi fights to bring down the Organization and get his real body back. This anime is one of the longest on-going animes made, with over 800 episodes. A collection can be found on Netflix. If the movies and show aren't found on Hulu or Crunchyroll, then you can always go to GoGoAnime and watch the entire series.

These are just a small portion of the anime world. If I were to recommend every anime I like, this article would never get finished. There are so many different types of anime out there, and new ones are produced every season of every year; mainly in the winter and the spring. If you are interested, feel free to check these out. If not, that's perfectly okay; anime isn't for everyone. Just remember that anime is not for kids; they can get very dark and gory.

About the Creator

Keri Gordon

I'm an avid anime and manga fan; I'm really boring and bad at intros. Mysteries and True Crime are pretty fascinating though. I love watching shows like Cops, Forensic Files, and The First 48. I am also a believer of the Paranormal.
