From a first look of the Titans’ second season, you can expect great things from the coming episodes. The character lineup for the second season is something comic book fans will be excited about, because there will be significant appearances made by both superheroes and supervillains.

Bruce Wayne / Batman (Iain Glen) is coming to Titans. Glen, better known in these United States for playing Jorah Mormont on Game of Thrones and Sir Richard Carlisle in Downton Abbey, made significant waves in the Resident Evil movie franchise as Dr. Isaacs. Further to Titans, the actor is also working on such big-screen productions as What About Love, Isabel, The Children, Haven: Above Sky, and The Racer.

There is a moment in the first look trailer where Jason Todd / Robin (Curran Walters) appears in front of news cameras and announces to the viewing public “Titans are back, b*tches!” While many fans might believe this is not the way Todd would behave, the production we are seeing hit television screens has a different target demographic to the source material. It’s possible the network is looking for a more mature audience. Consequently, more adult-themed material will appear in the televised episodes.

From where we see Todd appearing in front of the television cameras, the trailer transitions to a montage scene featuring various superheroes dressed in their respective costumes. The first one we see is Donna Troy / Wonder Girl (Conor Leslie). You may remember Leslie from when she played Trudy Walker in Amazon Prime’s The Man in the High Castle.

These a scene where Wonder Girl makes effective use of her lasso. The scene also features a glimpse of Koriand'r / Starfire (Anna Diop) in full costume. What’s going on here? It looks a tad confusing. From what we can see in the scene, it seems Starfire is fighting with herself. How could that be possible? Is the other Starfire the one from the first season? Based on the costume the character is wearing, there is a good chance that’s exactly what we’re seeing play out on screen.

The second costumed superhero we get to see in the montage is Hank Hall / Hawk (Alan Ritchson). Fans of Hawk and Dawn Granger / Dove (Minka Kelly) will be happy to see these characters return to the series for this second season.

About halfway through the trailer, we get to see our first look at Garth / Aqualad (Drew Van Acker). Soon after, there are shots of Gar Logan / Beast Boy (Ryan Potter) mid-transformation, Superboy / Conner Kent (Joshua Orpin), Rose Wilson / Ravager (Chelsea Zhang), and Joseph Wilson / Jericho (Chella Man).

There are numerous scenes featured in the trailer, character moments, all of which tease what’s to come in the second season. Some of the scenes, possibly flashback scenes, are giving us background information to the main characters.

The trailer closes with Slade Wilson / Deathstroke (Esai Morales) making an appearance. While I have no doubts Morales would be a great Deathstroke, it will be difficult for Arrowverse fans to not draw comparisons with Manu Bennett’s version of the character. Even though Bennett made the character his own for Arrow, there is no reason Morales can’t do the same for Titans.

Even though it doesn’t look like there is any reference to the characters in the trailer, both Dr. Eve Watson (Genevieve Angelson) of Cadmus Laboratories and Mercy Graves (Natalie Gumede) will be making appearances in this coming season. Comic book fans will know Graves works for Lex Luthor as his bodyguard.

With a 12-episode run, Titans will return to TNT on Friday, Sep. 6, 2019.
