Three Of My Favorite Comedy Shows From the 90s

A small taste of 90s favorites..

The 90s in my opinion has the best comedy shows. Even though the 70s and 80s had some gems like “Sanford and Son”,”Three's Company”, “Happy Days”, and “The Cosby Show”, the comedies of the 90s where special and unique. However, not all comedy shows of this era were good; some were just unfunny and contained suggestive content. When most people think of the best comedy shows from the 90s, they automatically ponder “Friends”, “Seinfield”, “Rosanne”,“King of Queens”, and “Full House”. For me though my favorites are not really the mainstream shows, but mostly the overlooked & underrated sitcoms. I determine my most-liked shows based on the characters and their personalities, what lessons are taught from the show, and the situations they are placed in. Also this list isn't in any particular order; I placed them randomly. So with that, let's get started.

Home Improvement

Home Improvement is a really good comedy series that features moral lessons and wacky moments. Tim Allen starred in this titular series as “Tim Taylor”, the host of “Tool Man” a fix-it tv show. He is married and has three sons. His partner and best friend Al Borland also hosts the show. What makes this series great is that Tim is clumsy and over-confident, which makes for some quirky moments. He constantly breaks and smashes things that he tries to repair. As I said before, his clumsiness gets the better of him as he falls, trips, electrocutes, and runs over items from his show and his home. Al on the other hand is level-headed and tries to get Tim out of the crazy situations that he finds himself in. His sons don't add much comedy to the show just support for when he screws up. His wife is their for him despite his habit of overpowering and breaking things. Finally, Wilson, his neighbor, provided the morals for the show,as Tim went to him often for advice. So if you are into family comedies with gags and a hint of moral lessons, I would highly suggest this.

Smart Guy

Smart Guy is a Disney series about ten-year-old ,TJ Henderson. Because of his high intelligence for his age, TJ was transferred from elementary to high school. His siblings are Marcus and Evette, as well as the frequent guest, Mo. They live in the suburbs of Washington D.C. with their father Floyd. What I like about this series are the situations of TJ in high school dealing with the high schoolers. He is often outsmarting and outwitting his classmates at a lot of things. His brother Marcus is constantly getting into schemes and hassles. He often feels jealousy towards TJ because of always getting attention. Evette is probably the most sensible of the siblings. Mo is probably the funniest character of the show, because of his goofball personality. He likes to have fun and hang out with Marcus. His father Floyd provides the moral lessons for the show by teaching his kids a variety of topics. In fact the series covers issues such as: smoking, bullying, cheating, and fighting, to name a few. It's because of the blend of moral lessons and comedy that I enjoy this series.

Kenan and Kel

Kenan and Kel is a comedy sitcom that aired on Nickelodeon and later on The N. The main characters are best friends Kenan Rockmore and Kel Kimble, Kenan's boss Chris, his two parents Sheryl and Roger and sister Kaira. Kel's parents never appeared on the show as he constantly hung out at Kenan's place. The show basically covers the exploits of the titular characters as they consistently get into trouble and mishaps. The theme of most the episodes is how Kenan always schemes and concocts plans to get out of mischief; while Kel almost always ruins it by his clumsiness and ineptitude. The series is set in Chicago; which gives this an opportunity to use guest actors and other figures. Some of the guests that appeared on the show included Tamia, Bill Belamy, Ron Harper of the Chicago Bulls, and Brittney Spears. This series does not teach many lessons exactly, but it does manage to show the consequences of their foolish actions. This covers many things from trying to buy a car, date multiple girls, skip school, and impersonate people. Finally, one element that I like a lot is how at the end of each episode, Kenan tells Kel to grab an assortment of items and to meet him at a designated spot. Kenan and Kel unlike the other shows on my list doesn't have any serious moments just plain clean comedy. If you're in the mood for a quirky show that you don't have to take seriously, look no further than Kenan and Kel.
