WARNING! SPOILERS for Avengers: Endgame Encore Bonus Footage.

Marvel fans have been enjoying the chance to revisit the epic conclusion to the MCU's Infinity Saga on the big screen with the release of Avengers: Endgame Encore. Endgame Encore features a brand new ending sequence, as well as three new credits scenes, all tying into the events of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.

One of these scenes is set in the TVA, featuring the return of Loki supporting characters Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius, and Ke Huy Kwan as Ouroboros, aka O.B. Mobius and O.B, alongside various other TVA staff, watch in horror on the TVA monitors as multiple incursions occur, some universes begin attacking each other in an effort to prevent their destruction. One of these universes, Earth-10005, is the Fox X-Men universe, which we can assume survives it's incursion with Earth-1127, as multiple Fox-verse characters and locations are set to play a role in Doomsday.

Unfortunately, three known legacy Marvel universes are confirmed destroyed in Endgame Encore's TVA scene. Let's look at the universes confirmed and as lost, and why they were chosen to be destroyed.

Earth-400083: 'Hulk' (2003)

The first of the legacy universes confirmed as destroyed is Earth-400083. This is the universe in which the 2003 Hulk film took place. Starring Eric Bana in the titular role, Hulk begins with Bruce inheriting mutated DNA via Gamma experiments done by his Father, David Banner, before the classic lab accident of other Hulk stories triggers Bruce's transformation into the Hulk as an adult.

Hulk received decent reviews and and drew decent box office numbers at the time of its release, with early plans for a sequel in place. However, the visual effects have aged badly compared to other films of its era. This, coupled with an interview in which Eric Bana expressed a lack of interest in returning for a multiverse story, made Earth-400083 an easy target for destruction. At one point, it was left somewhat ambiguous as to whether the 2008 MCU film The Incredible Hulk was a sequel to Hulk (Hulk ends with Bruce Banner in hiding in South America, while Incredible Hulk begins with Bruce in hiding in South America), but Earth-400083's destruction removes this ambiguity once and for all.

Earth-15886: 'F4ntastic Four' (2015)

2025's The Fantastic Four: First Steps was not the first attempt to reboot the Fantastic Four film franchise. 2015's F4ntastic Four presented a version of the Four's origin where, rather than an ill-fated space trip, the Four gain their powers after inventing interdimensional travel, and gain their powers via an accident in the new dimension. The accident is originally believed to have killed the fifth member of the travel party, Victor Von Doom, but Doom, warped and disfigured, eventually returns seeking revenge for having been left behind.

Fox executives were confident in F4ntastic Four prior to release, so much so that a release date for a sequel had already been scheduled. Unfortunately, the film underperformed at the box office, and was savaged by both fans and critics, so sequel plans were scrapped. Earth-15886 was probably considered an easy choice to sacrifice, as fans are unlikely to mourn the loss of this particular Fantastic Four.

Earth-8211: Captain Carter's World

Between 2021 and 2024, the Marvel Animation series What If..? explored many of the different branches of the MCU Multiverse born via Sylvie's murder of He-Who-Remains at the end of Loki season one. The first episode explores a world where a twist of fate sees Peggy Carter take the super-soldier serum in place of Steve Rogers, becoming Captain Carter. This world, designated Earth-8211, is revisited in season 2 of What If..?, in a Captain Carter twist on H.Y.D.R.A's takeover of S.H.I.E.L.D in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Sadly, Earth-8211 is listed among the universes already destroyed in Endgame Encore's TVA scene. As for why it may have been chosen for destruction, it is perhaps worth noting that Captain Carter no longer resided in her own Universe. In the final season of What If..?, she exists outside the regular timelines as a member of Uatu The Watcher's Guardians of The Multiverse alongside Kahhori, the Mjolnir-worthy Storm, Goddess of Thunder, and Byrdie, the daughter of Darcy Lewis and Howard the Duck, gifted due to her birth during the Convergence.

In the series finale, Carter appears to sacrifice her life to save her teammates, transporting The Eminence, The Incarnate, and The Executioner, three Watchers who had frowned upon Uatu's interference, to the universe of Supreme Strange, where they are depowered by Supreme Strange's remaining essence. Some fans theorise that Captain Carter was the anchor being of Earth-8211, and her extended absence, followed by her apparent death, may have made that world more vulnerable to incursions, leading to it's eventual destruction.

Unfortunately, this could well be just the beginning. There's a significant chance we'll see more familiar universes destroyed when Avengers: Doomsday hits theatres in December.
