'13 Reasons Why'

Spoiler and trigger warning: If you are sensitive to suicide, rape, or sexual assault, please do not read this. Also, if you have not finished season one, please be advised that this blog will contain spoilers.

I want to say before we get into this that if you or someone you know is suicidal or depressed, please get help. Getting help will change your life and possibly save it.

So 13 Reasons Why debuted on Netflix last year and became an instant hit, but also had major problems. The first problem is that the warnings have done nothing, according to some people. So Netflix decided to do trigger warnings filmed by the stars of the show instead of the standard written ones they already had in season one. Season two will have the recorded ones and the written ones will remain in season one. But my thing is, if they didn't pay attention to the written warning, why would they pay attention to the filmed one? Honestly, the people who watched the series should know what they're getting themselves into. It's been in the news enough for people should know what the show is about. If they don't know what it's about, Netflix has a little "about the show/movie" section you can read before you click play. Why would you watch something that you don't know anything about? Everyone has something that triggers or scares them, so it would make sense to know what you're watching before you click play.

After the warnings, the next controversy is the way they depicted the suicide. The scene was hard for me to watch. It was close up, in your face, and in horrific detail. It showed everything. It even showed her parents finding her body. This series and topic is not pretty or polite. When we talk about the topic of suicide in the public, it's usually just in the context of some public figure (athlete, movie star, musician, ETC.) who had committed suicide. When it does come up, it's only "hey, this happened and it's sad." We need to talk more openly about suicide. We need to talk about why it happens and what we can do to stop it. Suicide is one of the main causes of death of teenagers—right up there with car accidents. The only way it will stop is if we talk about it. Talk to our kids, talk to each other, and talk to a trusted person.

*End of trigger warning, but more spoilers*

Beyond the controversy, there are some conspiracy and fan theories. The first fan theory is about Tony. If you are familiar with the show, then you know Tony was there for the Bakers and for Clay through the whole series. So the theory is that Tony was a spirit or ghost. The reasoning is that Tony doesn't really fit in and you don't see him in the school. But if you watched closely, he had a boyfriend and he had a house for Hannah to leave the tapes at. So on one hand, I believe the theory—on the other hand, I don't.

The next theory is that it wasn't Alex in the ambulance. Alex shot himself in the head so it would make sense that he would be in the ambulance. Some people thought it was Justin in the ambulance because they saw brown hair. I didn't see any hair so I don't know. I think maybe people thought they saw brown hair that was really something else, like dried blood or a wound. Maybe the actor's stand in had brown hair and that's what you saw. And it's also believed that he will be the next Hannah in the way of him being the focus of the next season. Fans also think that Tyler maybe shot Alex. Tyler pulled down Alex's picture in the dark room and that's what led people to think that Tyler shot Alex. I thinks it's because Alex and Tyler may have been friends and he didn't want to hurt Alex. Also, if you remember, Alex stood up for Tyler briefly.

The main theory on Tyler is that he is planning something and that may be the focus of next season along with Alex. Clues to this Tyler theory are the pictures and the guns. It may be something like a school shooting or some way of picking off the people in the pictures, possibly making them look like suicides or something else.

One theory is that Hannah will return. I believe this theory, but I don't know how this will play out since she died. Some people think that since the book ended differently, with Hannah being alive, that maybe somehow she is alive in the next season. The reason I think she is dead truly in the series is that they found her dead body and that she has a grave site.

A theory I only heard once or twice is that Mr. Porter may be fired unless he destroys the tapes. The one theory is that he may only destroy tape 13; the tape about him. Although Tony gave the drive with the "tapes" to Hannah's parents, so getting rid of them would do nothing.

One theory I hope isn't true is that Bryce will get away with raping Jess and Hannah. Some fans think that Justin may hurt Bryce in some way. At the very least, I hope that this is true.

I left one or two out, but these were the main ones. Hope you enjoyed these. Now here's the questions that we know we have to look forward to in season two.

What happened to Justin? Will Alex survive? What will happen to the tapes? What will happen in the lawsuit? What does Tyler have planned? What will happen with Jess after she tells, or will she even tell?
