Jerry Douglas will be honored on The Young and the Restless

The CBS soap The Young and the Restless turned 50 on March 23 and the celebration of 5 decades that began in 2022 is continuing. Y&R has brought back many former cast members that have led to fond memories for those who watch the soap and soon will honor a member of the cast who passed away.

Soaps in Depth has revealed that the number 1 daytime drama will be airing a very special tribute episode on June 22, in honor of Jerry Douglas (John Abbott) that will include the late soap vet's wife Kym Douglas. Douglas was born Gerald Rubenstein in Chelsea, Massachusetts, on November 12, 1932, to Russian Jewish immigrants, and like many Jewish actors at that time changed his name for professional reasons.

John Abbott will have a tribute episode

This is exciting news for fans of the iconic actor who passed away on November 9, 2021, three days prior to his 89th birthday. Douglas was a recast in the role of John Abbott beginning in 1982 and continued to play the beloved Abbott patriarch until the character died in 2006. Fans were so distraught at the death of this popular character that Douglas came out of retirement and later returned as John's spirit who would advise his son Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) for many years.

All about Kym Douglas

Kym Douglas began her career in television at the age of 16 as an intern for a local television station in Southfield, MI. and had this to say about her journey.

From day one, I was driven to make my mark in this space using my Second City improv background and professional training to encourage others every day.

In addition to being a television personality, Kym is an author, and blogger and will portray a character named Zelda Wilford, on The Young and the Restless on June 22, who has some type of connection with the Abbott Family. How will Zelda affect the Abbott home?

What type of connection will Zelda have with the Abbott clan and why will she be in Genoa City? Could she be a past lover or have been a close friend of John and what effect will she have on his family? The Abbotts are dealing with a lot of drama at this time since it was revealed that Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford is alive. They also have Tucker McCall (Trevor St. John living in the home and Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) stirring the pot every chance she gets.

Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) has just found out that Summer Abbott (Alison Lanier) knew her mother was alive for quite a while and did not tell him.
