'The Young and the Restless' is searching for a male to play Derrick

Is this a legit character or a code name for Chance Chancellor?

According to Celeb Dirty Laundry and Soap Hub, The Young and the Restless has a casting call out for a new male character. The CBS daytime drama is said to be looking for someone to play a 30 something all American. white male, who is playful and not jaded. His name is Derrick and spoiler alerts say the description given sounds a lot like Chance Chancellor. CDL suggesst that Derrick is a code name and that the CBS daytime drama is going to recast the role of Nina's son. CDL also reports that the soaps often use code names when they do not yet want to reveal who an actor will portray.

Viewers re now left to wonder if Derrick will be a new face in Genoa City or a replacement for Danny Boaz who was let go in February. Around Christmas time Boaz announced that he was recovering from COVID-19 and Melissa Ordway's real life husband Justin Gaston took over as Chance during the wedding. Many Y&R viewers enjoyed the chemistry between the couple and speculated that Gaston would replace Boaz in the role. When Danny Boaz left he said he was told that Chance was not being recast or killed off. Viewers know, however, that the powers that be often change their minds.

The character is on a deadly mission and away from home while his wife is going ahead with using Mariah as a surrogate mother and Devon's sperm. A number of Y&R viewers have expressed on social media that they find this situation just a little too close for comfort. All of these friends banding together to create a child is a bit unbelievable but the writers are milking it for all it is worth. Nina has moved into the Chancellor mansion to help her daughter in law and Mariah and Tessa will also be there. Everything seems to be in order and they are waiting to find out if Mariah who was implanted is actually pregnant. The only person missing from the equation is Chance.

Fans are hoping that Abby's husband will show up before she gives birth and this is why they believe Chance will soon return. Justin Gaston has gone on record as saying that he would welcome a long term gig with The Young and the Restless and some viewers have said they believe that he will be hired as Chance so he can do love scenes with his wife. Fans enjoyed the chemistry between the two during the wedding scenes but no one knows for certain what the writers are up to. The casting call for Derrick could indeed be for a new character which will only emphasize that veteran Genoa City residents are not being utilized.

If Derrick is real he might be a love interest for Lola considering that Abby, Mariah, Tessa, and Summer are all spoken for. Sasha Calle who portrays Lola was just hired for the lead role in the new Supergirl movie so it's not clear how long she will be on The Young and the Restless. Derrick could also become interested in Amanda or Elena and pull them out of the love triangles with Devon and Nate. Nothing is set in stone so viewers will speculate until some facts are revealed.

If Derrick is a code name for Chance this indicates that Y&R overlooked both Danny Boaz and Justin Gaston who both did really well in the role. Something about this situation is not adding up for the fans so they will be trying to figure it all out. Be sure to watch out for breaking news, spoilers, and updates related to the identity of Derrick and who will be playing the part. Could Danny Boaz be rehired on The Young and the Restless or will Justin Gaston take his place. Is Derrick really Chance and will a completely new actor take on the role? Stay tuned to find out.
