The Story of Tom Marvolo Riddle

The story of Tom Marvolo Riddle is an interesting one that has a lot of loopholes where we don’t know what happened, but I will try my best to summarize it with some help from Albus Dumbledore. Riddle’s story starts before he was born in a town called Little Hangleton in a shack type place where his grandfather Marvolo, uncle Morfin, and mother Merope, so we can assume that they didn’t have a lot of money. Their last name was Gaunt and they were direct descendants of Salazar Slytherin who was a powerful wizard known for a pureblood family line. We can assume that the family was rich but the family before them spent it all and left them with barely any. Power and blood purity were more important to Marvolo than his children and his son was more important to him than his daughter. Marvolo’s daughter was neglected and probably felt alone, so she started to fancy a muggle who lived in the town, a handsome rich man named Tom Riddle.

One day a Minister Officials came to the Gaunts house and arrested Marvolo and Morfin which left Merope only in a house she didn’t like. She took this advantage and ran away with Tom Riddle who she married. We can only guess how she got him to go with her, but our guess that most likely happened is she put him under a powerful love potion for years. When Marvolo came home to an empty house with only a note telling him where his daughter was and what she did he decided that he would never mention her name ever again. Merope was disowned from the family. Sometime after Merope and Tom married Merope became pregnant and probably decided that Tom had learned to love her or would stay for the baby. She was wrong on both accounts because after she took the love potion off Tom Riddle left her and never saw her again. She gave birth at a muggle orphanage, but shortly after giving birth, she died leaving her baby parentless. Before she died she named her baby Tom after his father and Marvolo after her father.

Over the years at the orphanage, Tom Riddle Jr. was seen as dangerous and mad, but that was only because he was showing magical abilities. He did use his magic on people who were annoyed but people ended up getting hurt in the end. One day Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry came to visit Tom to tell him that he was magical and was enrolled at Hogwarts. Tom kept asking Albus a lot of questions because he was skeptical of him, thinking he was a doctor to check him out like the people at the orphanage wanted. Albus Dumbledore told Tom everything he needed to know, but before Albus left Tom told him that he could talk to snakes which was a sign that he was probably related to Slytherin, which he was.

While he was at school we didn't know a lot about until he was sixteen. Sometimes when he was fifteen or sixteen but probably sixteen he went to his mother’s old home which was where he saw his uncle Morfin. After talking to him he figured out that his father was still alive, so he knocked out his uncle, stole his ring, and went over to his father’s house and killed his fraternal grandparents and father. We think that was when he made the ring a Horcrux after the death of his father, but he had a talk with Professor Slughorn about Horcruxes after that because he was wearing the ring. I forgot to mention that Tom Riddle was picked to be in Slughorn’s Slug club. After learning about Horcruxes Tom released a Basilisk in the school and killed a muggle-born girl and the death of this girl made his second Horcrux which was his diary.

We don’t really know what happened to him after that, but we do know that he got a job at Borgin and Burkes which gave him the ability to make Hufflepuff’s cup a Horcrux after killing its former owner Hepzibah Smith. We don’t know what time but sometime during his adult years he made Slytherin’s locket a Horcrux after killing a Muggle tramp. Sometime during his last or maybe after his school years, he asked the Grey Lady , Helena Ravenclaw where her mother’s diadem was and when she told him he killed a peasant to make it his Horcrux. Sometimes after making five Horcruxes he went to the Potters’ house and killed James and Lily Potter, but trying to kill Harry Tom, who preferred Lord Voldemort which he made up during his school years after learning that his dad was a muggle and was ashamed, accidentally made Harry a Horcruxe without knowing it while he became a somewhat of a spirit type thing.

After he was strong enough with his snake Nagini he killed Bertha Jorkins, a Minister worker, which is when he made his seventh Horcrux Nagini. He was now relying on his Horcruxes to stay alive. During Harry’s seventh year at Hogwarts, which he skipped, he destroyed all the Horcruxes and killed Tom Riddle. Tom Riddle became Lord Voldemort because of all the anger inside of him from having no parents growing up which is why I think if he would have had a parent he would probably have been a better person.
