The Sons Of Anarchy Is Returning With A Twist

From various reports, Sons of Anarchy Legends is a go at the FX Network, and Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter has given the returning cast and the show his blessing. It remains one of the most critically acclaimed television series of the 21st century, even years after its ending. For those who don't know the history or aren't familiar, this was one of those you shouldn't have missed.

In the fictional small town in California, the Sons of Anarchy were the reigning outlaws, and their club was filled with the baddest of the bad. Charlie Hunam played Jackson Teller, heir apparent to the throne, as his father and his stepfather co-founded the club with the first nine. Jax, as we see in season one, has a conscience, despite being an outlaw, and struggles with the moral dilemmas of fatherhood, family, and his club duties.

Sons of Anarchy is a throwback to the Hells Angels and Grim Reaper days of the American outlaw biker scene, and its ties to various organized crime groups throughout their history. But while it explored the hardcore biker scene, it also explored the subjects of family, honor, brotherhood, love, and betrayal.

Over the course of the seven seasons, we see the struggles to break away from the life as the ties of blood, family, and brotherhood anchor Jax to his club. As he tries various ways of getting his brothers and his club out of the life that keeps threatening their lives, Jax faces the secrets of the past, hard truths, struggles at home, and the loss of friends and even freedom at times.

The question of whether he can escape the life is ultimately answered in the end. First, he faces the ultimate betrayals surrounding the death of his father, then ultimately, the one true love of his life. All at the hands of the one person in his life he should have been able to depend on.

At the bitter end, Jax sees one way out, other than a cage for the rest of his days. But as he frees his club, his children, and his brothers from the sins of the past and sets everything on a new and peaceful course, tying up loose ends comes at a cost. In the bitter end, we see Jax on his father's motorcycle, on the same highway his father was killed while riding, and he comes to a bitter ending more filled with irony than most can fathom.

Jax wasn't the only death in the series that made getting the gang back together the most unlikely of things to expect in television. Clay Morrow (Ron Pearlman), Jax's stepfather, doesn't survive. Katy Sagal (Jemma) doesn't survive, as is the case with Maggie Siff (Tara Teller, Jax's wife), Mark Boone Jr (Bobby), and Ortiz/Juice.

What's being reported is that the limited-run series, heading into production at FX, is expected to get most of the originals back. But how?

Set 10 years into the future, Charlie and the originals all get together at a convention to do the fandom thing, and while they're reuniting and catching up, their lives begin to bleed with the legendary characters they once played on television.

This metaverse adventure of the Sons of Anarchy is going to test not the characters, but Charlie Hunnam and his co-stars from the acclaimed series. As they have to embrace their fictional personalities to face a threat unlike anything they expected, can the men and women who made Sons of Anarchy the gritty, racey, exciting drama that won awards rise to the occasion?

As the questions grow, this isn't a new concept. Think Tim Allen's Galaxy Quest, where the crew of a fictional starship is faced with having to become their characters as they are taken by aliens in need of their expertise.
