The Society hit Netflix in May of 2019. The series was an immediate hit, especially with teen viewers, exploring the transition from adolescence to adulthood and how this affects the characters' friendships, romantic relationships, and worldview.

The young characters are forced to grow up - and apart - very quickly, facing the harsh realities of a world where responsibility, politics, trust, and loyalty are a currency of their own. Among the drastic changes to their world, the teens cling to old relationships and form new ones. Here are five unhealthy relationships on The Society, and five that we absolutely love.

10. UNHEALTHY: Luke And Helena

At the beginning of the series, Luke accompanies Grizz and a few others, including Emily, on a scouting expedition into the forest. Luke interacts with Emily at the party on the first night in the New World. They maintain a rapport on the expedition until she's bitten by a snake and dies. Luke feels guilty and grieves her.

Later, Luke is easily swayed by Campbell's manipulations, and he arrests Allie and Will for him. Helena trusts Luke over anyone else, so his lies effectively turn her against Allie, who represents the New World's greater good.

9. LOVE: Gordie And Cassandra

Shy Gordie is tentative in his approach with the headstrong Cassandra, but they are a perfect match. They have a similar level of intellect, and their personalities balance each other out; while Gordie prefers to work hard in the shadows, he'll still stand up for people he cares about, but Cassandra isn't afraid to speak out and utilize her power to set things in order.

Cassandra also opens up to Gordie about her heart condition, and he sweetly and loyally vows to find a cure in this world without the Internet. After Cassandra is killed, Gordie teams up with Allie - who's also a fierce protector of her sister - to find her murderer.

8. UNHEALTHY: Harry And Kelly

Kelly is introduced as a seemingly shallow popular girl dating the school's most popular boy. However, the series hints early on that Kelly is more than what she seems. She's always kind, except when she or someone she cares about has been hurt. Justifiably, she breaks things off with Harry, but he won't let her go.

Harry is under the assumption that he owns Kelly and can control her. She continues offering her friendship to him and trying to help him through his depression. Behind her back, Harry supports everything Kelly is against, and this comes to a head in the final episode. When Kelly learns of Allie and Will's fate, she feels betrayed and disappointed by Harry.

7. LOVE: Allie And Will

Allie and Will's relationship is one of the most tumultuous on the show. They begin as best friends, but Allie has been pining over him for some time. When she kisses him in the first episode, he wishes she hadn't tried to change their relationship. But they quickly go back to being friends, which proves that not much gets between them.

Despite Will's attempts to pursue a relationship with Kelly, he places Allie above everyone else. He stands by her every minute of her journey, supporting her in making tough decisions and offering his ears to listen to her. Besides their political partnership, they have fun at prom and reminisce on memories of their friendship. At the end of the season, the pair finally begin a romantic relationship, but they're soon arrested and their fate hangs in the balance.

6. UNHEALTHY: Harry And Campbell

Campbell, being a confirmed psychopath, is incapable of feeling the emotions other characters feel. He feels no remorse when he manipulates Harry into doing his bidding, essentially taking control of the entire town.

Before Harry and Lexie become the co-mayors of New Ham, Harry seems to be teetering on the cusp between his moral conscience and his desire for power. In the end, the latter wins, but perhaps it wouldn't have if he wasn't under Campbell's influence.

5. LOVE: Kelly And Becca

An unexpected but very pleasant friendship blossoms between these two characters when Becca lets Kelly help her through her pregnancy. Kelly is perceptive, observant, and very caring, which is why she's one of the first characters to notice Becca's pregnancy. As good a friend as Sam is to Becca, he doesn't always understand her or take her seriously.

Both of these girls could use a friend, especially a female one, and they prove to be an enjoyable pair to watch onscreen. Inadvertently, Becca helps Kelly find her calling and begin working in the hospital. Kelly provides Becca with some much-needed company and the two share some lighthearted moments together. They also start to uncover a piece of the puzzle that is this multi-dimensional version of New Ham when they find a picture of a bus driver on Becca's phone.

4. UNHEALTHY: Harry And Allie

After being rude to Cassandra and trying to steal her power, Harry undermines her authority by refusing to complete his tasks. When Allie argues with her sister, she joins him for a game of Fugitive. They spend the rest of the evening together, but by the end, Allie isn't very impressed with him. In her recklessness, she gets hit by a car, which wouldn't happen if Harry hadn't put her in a position of danger.

For the first few episodes, Harry is consumed in high school games and reputation, and is generally immature - a lot less mature than Allie. Later in the season, he sabotages her and turns the town against her. Furthermore, if Dewey is truly responsible for Cassandra's murder, Harry's also partly guilty. He's a clear antagonist, sharing only a brief flirtation with Allie. Otherwise, he stands for everything that Allie is firmly against. He's got a lot of work to do if he's going to redeem himself.

3. LOVE: Sam And Grizz

Who doesn't love this couple? These two make the perfect pair, finding a deep understanding that goes beyond any language. That being said, Grizz is still committed to learning sign language so that he can properly communicate with Sam. Still, it's sweet that they don't need words to establish their relationship.

Sam and Grizz care for each other greatly and can't bear to be apart from one another. Yet they both know that some things must come before their relationship; Sam protects Becca's reputation at the risk of their romance, and Grizz is, first and foremost, loyal to Allie and the town's survival. Both Sam and Grizz know they need to be clear about what they want for their future and how they can get there together.

2. UNHEALTHY: Elle And Campbell

This is one of the most toxic pairings on the series. Unfortunately, Campbell sets his eyes on Elle from the beginning of the series, and she's left to endure his worst, feeling trapped and defenseless with nobody to confide in.

Campbell abuses Elle both mentally and physically. At first, she puts up with it because she has nowhere else to go, no friends to turn to. She plays along for her own safety until he becomes dangerously violent, and she attempts to poison him on Thanksgiving. When this attempt fails, she finally speaks up to Helena, revealing the physical and emotional wounds Campbell has left her with. But when Campbell reclaims her - essentially as his own property - Elle's fear leaves her little choice but to play along.

1. LOVE: Sam And Becca

These two share a bond so strong that Sam chooses to protect and help Becca over his new relationship with Grizz. Becca is almost always at Sam's side to interpret for him.

In turn, Sam is always at Becca's side to make her laugh and help her through problems. He offers to pretend that he's the father of Becca's baby in a beat, not caring about the whispers that will ensue. As Sam says, they're one of the best couples in the town because they never fight, and they always put each other first.
