The RHOA Season 17 Episode 8 Recap: A Sound Bath Breakdown
Phaedra’s sound bath turns chaotic as K. Michelle confronts Porsha, Kelli snaps, and Atlanta’s peace plan falls apart

Phaedra invites the women to float on pool mattresses, breathe through their feelings, and receive sound healing from a flute. Naturally, they end the night with Kelli waving a wine glass in Porsha’s face.
“A Sound Bath Breakdown” brings the Atlanta women home after Dallas, but nobody has actually moved on. K. Michelle still thinks there was a plot against her. Porsha is tired of being accused of things nobody can clearly explain. Kelli is stressed about money, business, and her divorce, yet still has enough energy to jump into someone else’s fight. Shamea is dealing with fertility pressure that feels heavier than the show wants to admit.
Kelli Is Carrying More Than She Can Hide
Kelli’s restaurant scene gives her more context than most of her group moments. She sits with her mother and grandmother, the woman behind Nana’s Chicken-N-Waffles, and admits she’s in a financial bind she can’t figure out.
Her divorce, business pressure, and custody issues are weighing on her. Her ex-husband doesn’t want their children filming, which limits what she can show at home. That explains some of Kelli’s tension, but it also creates a Housewives problem. If she can’t film with her kids and won’t fully show her boyfriend, she can’t keep using everyone else’s life as her main storyline.
Then there’s Jarvis.
Kelli reveals she has been dating a man for about a year, but she calls him by a nickname inspired by Iron Man. When she calls him on speaker, he confirms it. A producer jokes they should call him Tony Stark because Tony Stark had big pockets, and Jarvis doesn’t seem opposed.
It’s funny, but also convenient. Kelli is too new on this cast to hide a year-long boyfriend behind a Marvel reference. Her grandmother asking whether he has a W-2, aka does he have a job, is the best part of the scene. Atlanta elders don’t need confessionals. They need one question and a look.
Shamea’s Son Storyline Feels Uncomfortable
Shamea’s storyline keeps circling Gerald’s desire for a son, and the whole thing feels uncomfortable. She and Gerald already have daughters, but the conversation keeps framing a boy as the missing piece.
Shamea seems willing to keep trying because she wants to make Gerald happy. That’s the part that grates. She has already dealt with pregnancy stress, family health concerns, and the emotional weight of fertility conversations. Watching her carry that pressure for a husband who wants a son makes the storyline feel less romantic and more exhausting.
There’s also tension around her acting. Gerald’s discomfort with that part of her life makes it look like Shamea is being asked to shrink herself in more than one way. The show treats some of this lightly, but the material isn’t light. A husband wanting a son this badly is not cute.
Porsha Has Mike, Sway, and Zero Desire to Choose
Porsha’s love life brings a lighter mess. She’s still seeing both Sway and Mike Bless, and she’s in no rush to choose.
With Lauren, Porsha explains that Mike sent a mariachi band to her house after she ignored him for several days. Mike also wants a baby, and Porsha admits that could be a problem because she doesn’t seem ready to give him that answer.
Lauren asks who she’s choosing. Porsha laughs because Porsha is choosing peace, pleasure, and whatever else works for her that week.
The stronger scene is her date with Sway. Sway asks whether Porsha can truly see herself in a relationship with a woman or if she’s just exploring. Porsha doesn’t dodge the question completely. She says she is exploring, but she’s not playing with Sway.
Sway is direct without being desperate. Porsha seems softer around her, and the chemistry is obvious. When Porsha says she’ll love her out loud if it works, it feels more sincere than most of her (scripted) romantic scenes this season.
K. Michelle Still Thinks There’s a Plot
K. Michelle is still upset about Dallas, but her accusations remain hard to follow. At pottery with Phaedra and Kelli, she says the women were “sitting there waiting” to confront her. She suggests Phaedra knew something was coming. Phaedra denies setting her up and looks genuinely confused.
K. Michelle believes people were trying to expose her, but she never gives the group a clean timeline. She brings up Porsha, Drew, Blakk, Dallas, old comments, and a shared ex named Nosh. Every time she talks, the argument gets more tangled.
The issue with Porsha seems to be that Porsha dated Nosh too, and K. Michelle thinks Porsha should have told her. But Porsha and K. Michelle barely know each other in Housewives time. K. Michelle is married. Expecting Porsha to arrive with a full dating-history disclosure packet is a lot. But… it’s still girl-code to tell your friend, or in this case co-worker, that you used to mess with her former man.
K. Michelle calls the situation the “spirit of exposure,” which is a high-drama way of saying absolutely nothing. It’s likely the women were indeed planning to drag this into the light, and K. Michelle simply beat them to the punch. But instead of letting it breathe, K. keeps picking at the scab, turning a potential moment into a never-ending saga.
Phaedra’s Healing Waters Needed a Backup Plan
Phaedra decides the group needs “Healing Waters,” a sound bath at her house with meditation, pool floats, organic food, and her healing flute. She also reveals she’s a certified Reiki Master, because Phaedra collects careers like handbags.
The event looks ridiculous in the best way. The women arrive in swimwear and full glam. Phaedra’s butler gets in a little shade about late guests. Pinky keeps eating the appetizers and notices everything tastes organic. Angela looks around and says she’s confused and wants to know where the food is. Honestly, same.
The sound bath barely works. K. Michelle can’t get in the pool because of health concerns. Shamea’s air mattress pops. Cynthia leaves early for a flight, which ends up being the smartest decision anyone makes all episode.
For a few minutes, the women float and pretend the bad energy has dissolved. Then they sit down for dinner, and the whole peace plan dies.
K. Michelle Confronts Porsha and Drew
At dinner, K. Michelle confronts Porsha in front of the group. She says she heard there was behind-the-scenes talk about exposing her.
Porsha asks the obvious question: why would she be trying to expose K. Michelle? Even though we know the answer - cough - storyline - cough -
K. Michelle doesn’t give a clear answer. She brings up earlier tension, the miscarriage comment, Dallas, and Porsha’s connection to Nosh. Porsha gets more irritated as the conversation goes on because she can’t defend herself against a charge that keeps changing shape.
Drew reacts during the argument, and K. Michelle turns on her too. The Blakk issue comes back up again, because apparently every road in this conflict leads back to Drew saying something K. Michelle didn’t like.
Drew fires back with “Yodel your ass out” and tells K. Michelle she obviously doesn’t fit in. It’s harsh, but Drew is not wrong. K. Michelle keeps trying to force the women into a story they don’t understand. K. Michelle’s dig regarding Drew’s professional resumes was the one moment of the night that actually landed. It was the kind of petty shade that makes you giggle despite the surrounding nonsense.
Kelli Throws the Match at Porsha
Kelli spends most of the dinner chiming in from the side, but once Porsha’s name comes up, she locks in.
Phaedra tries to calm things down and says, “I think what we have established is…”
Kelli cuts her off with the line of the episode: “That Porsha has f***ed every Nigerian in Atlanta.”
The room explodes.
Kelli raises her wine glass near Porsha’s face, which is a terrible idea if the goal is to keep the dinner from turning physical. Production steps, because Porsha has a history of getting violent, before things go further.
The wild part is that Kelli came into the episode looking defeated by her own life, then found fresh energy the second she could take a shot at Porsha. Her personal scenes make her sympathetic. Her dinner behavior makes her clocked-in to work.
Porsha also brings Kelli’s own alleged married-man rumor back into the room, specifically the claim that Kelli slept with a married preacher after the BET Awards. Suddenly, the sound bath is gone, the food is forgotten, and the group is back in the kind of mess Atlanta understands best.
A Sound Bath With Zero Peace
Phaedra’s sound bath failed because nobody came ready to heal. They came dressed for the nightclub (I mean you Porsha), which’s different.
K. Michelle wants accountability, but she can’t explain the accusation clearly or fast enough for anyone to answer it. Porsha is over it. Drew is tired of being an easy target. Kelli is overwhelmed by her own life, but still eager to fight Porsha. Shamea’s fertility storyline adds a sadder layer underneath the chaos.
The episode ends with Phaedra’s peaceful event in pieces, which feels about right. Atlanta doesn’t need more flutes, floats, or forced group healing. It needs someone to say what they actually mean and bring a receipt that makes sense.
