First it's everywhere, next there's none, then its regulated. Now there's too much

For those of you who are fans of the show you've probably seen that the trailer for The Magicians Season 5 was dropped yesterday and according to Dean Fogg, there's too much magic. Not only that but there is some major drama developing in the world of Fillory and apparently it could spell the end of the magical world. This new trailer showcases our favorite protagonists of the show and how they are all dealing with the death of their beloved friend Quentin Coldwater who sacrificed himself in order to save all of magic.

The trailer opens up with Alice Quinn who appears to be suffering still from losing the love of her life. She wakes up from what seems like a nightmare most likely rewatching Quentin die in front of her again and then proceeds to look at his book. She doesn't know how to move on with out him or even if she can even continue on living without him. The match that she lights while looking at his book tells me otherwise though. Maybe the best way for her to move on is to try to quit reminding herself of him. She isn't the only one though who is suffering from this loss, Julia and Elliot seem to be in the same boat with her. The best thing for them to do know is to honor his death and the sacrifice he made so that countless others could live and create more beautiful magic. But therein lies the problem.

Back at Brakebills Fogg describes a new problem that has occurred with magic coming back, "There's too much goddamn magic" in his words. So what does that mean? The trailer says it all spells are now enhanced to the max, enchantments fizzle out, and the cherry on top it could spell the end of Fillory and Earth. Some of the wards around the school start to go haywire, Penny 23 seems to be having trouble trying to maintain his casting, there's a planet in the skies of Fillory that looks like Saturn, and a meteor shower also almost killed Penny 23 and Julia before he traveled them out of there.

Back in the kingdom of Fillory there is some major diva level drama happening between Margo and FENN? This part tripped me up a little bit to be honest with you. The last time that we heard about Fenn and Josh while they were still running things in Fillory was at the end of Season 4. Margo and Elliot had returned to Fillory with the intention of getting Margo to become unbanished and becoming High King again while Elliot stands beside her as long as she reigns. However, when they returned they were looking at a much different castle Whitespire with way more spires than there were before and what appeared to be a small town with in the castle walls as well. They crossed paths with some passing by villagers who told them that the 'Dark King' now reigns over Fillory. High King Fenn and Josh of Fresh Prince were overthrown 300 years ago!? Okay, I know that time moves at a much faster rate in Fillory than it does on Earth, but seriously they were gone for like a weeks tops even after Quentin's funeral. Now here's where it gets weird, in the trailer Fenn and Josh are still alive, not only that but Margo and Fenn seem to be having a duel with Margo wielding an ax and Fenn with her trusty knives. This is most likely a duel for Margo to become High King of Fillory again, but Fenn doesn't appear to want to give up the throne so easily. So either there is some major time magic that happened within Fillory that we still need to figure out or there's a major plot hole that needs explaining.

To wrap up some other interesting details that I noticed within the trailer towards the end Alice and Elliot seem to be going on a quest to I guess help them either find a way to move on without Quentin or find a way to get him back. Either way Elliot finds himself in a heap of trouble along the way getting attacked by a blind goblin looking thing, almost falling off a cliff, and comes face to face with a Kraken. Margo has an encounter with some old friends of hers, those of the kind with pale white robes and soulless black eyes. Yep that's right the fairies are back. As for Julia and Kady, Julia finds a questing creature who comes to Earth looking for Quentin, but informs him that even though he is dead she would like to take on his quest in his absence. To which the creature says that she cannot because, well she's a woman. I don't like it anymore than she does but well see what happens. Kady knows that the end of the world is upon them too, but as to how she will contribute to the group is unknown as of yet. My guess is the two 'best bitches' are gonna team up once again.

So some things that I am looking forward to in this season are: How everyone is gonna move on without Quentin in their lives? Who this new 'Dark Ruler' person is in Fillory? How are Josh and Fenn still alive? Will Margo get her crown back and what do the fairies want with her? and What plans does the Library have for Alice? I guess we'll find out during the season premiere January 15, 2020.
