'The Lord of the Rings' Elijah Wood Expresses Interest In 'Star Wars' And MCU Roles

Elijah Wood has recently expressed his interest in getting involved in a film in another massive franchise, namely Star Wars or the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Elijah is most famous for his role in The Lord of the Rings as Frodo Baggins. The Lord of the Rings franchise was huge and was so beloved by fans. The film trilogy took the world by storm, and it's no wonder the movies are incredibly well done. The films are high fantasy at its finest, with so many epic battles through out and some incredible character development through out.

The Lord of the Rings tells the story of Middle-earth and the struggles it goes through against the dark lord Sauron. During the Second Age, Sauron created the Rings of power for men, elves, and dwarves, but he created another: the One Ring that was powerful enough to bind the others. But during the first war with Sauron, where he was defeated, the Ring was lost and made its way to a stoor called Smeagol, who as we all know went on to become the creature known as Gollum. In the time that followed, the Ring would eventually find its way to another hobbit: Bilbo Baggins, the uncle of Elijah's character.

The trilogy that follows these events is a rollercoaster of emotion and epic action where we see Frodo tasked with returning the Ring to the fires of Mount Doom in order to destroy it. Of course, he can't do that alone, as the path ahead is dangerous. So the Fellowship of the Ring was born as Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas, Gandalf, Boromir, Merry, Pippin, and Sam all agree to assist Frodo in his mission. Over the course of the three movies, we see the Fellowship separated, and our hero Frodo leaves with only Sam to help him get to Mount Doom. On the way, they meet Gollum and end up facing off against Shelob, a giant spider who lives in the mountains near Mordor and Mount Doom whilst the rest of the Fellowship are engaged in furious battles for Middle-earth with Sauron's forces.

In essence, Frodo is our main protagonist, tasked with completing a mission to destroy a powerful weapon in order to bring down an evil faction... Sounds slightly familiar, right? It is a similar journey to that of Luke Skywalker in A New Hope. Now, I'm not saying the franchises or stories are the same. I'm just pointing out that Elijah is no stranger to the role of the main hero up against insurmountable odds.

Elijah has expressed an interest in taking up a role in a Star Wars film. He has voiced Jace Rucklin in the animated series Star Wars Resistance, but he has never been in a live-action film for the franchise. Honestly, given his experience in the type of hero role detailed above, I think he could nail it. Here is what he had to say on the subject.

"I think that's just inherently fun. I haven't had a chance to play in a giant sandbox in a while…Star Wars gets precedent because I'm a huge Star Wars fan. So more of that, certainly in the live-action sphere, would be awesome."

So not only has he been able to show that he is capable of this type of role, he is a huge Star Wars fan who has been in Star Wars, which means if he is anything like the rest of us, he would bring a lot of passion to any role. He takes in the franchise as he would be coming in with a lot of love for one of the biggest franchises in the world.

He has also stated having some interest in joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, this is something kind of different for Wood, but not entirely because he has actually appeared in a comic book movie before he played the creepy character of Kevin in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Whilst Sin City is a comic book movie, it is nothing like a Marvel movie. It's incredibly dark and violent, but still in the ball park, so it should not be an issue for an actor like Elijah to adjust to more family friendly tone of the MCU. This is what he had to say on the possibility of joining the MCU.

"But working on a Marvel film, I mean, there's obviously a whole conversation that happens certainly in film Twitter about sort of the cinematic relevance of Marvel, is it cinema? All this sort of shit. And whether you like superhero movies or not, they are inherently fun. And those movies are extremely well made. I think getting to play again in that universe's sandbox would be a blast. It'd be totally awesome because it's at such an insane scale."

So there you have. If Frodo himself is throwing his hat into the ring for a role in Star Wars, or the MCU, it would be interesting to see him in either franchise. Maybe as a new character in Star Wars. Or perhaps with imminent arrival of the Fantastic Four, could we see The Lord of the Rings star suiting up as the Human Torch ?
