Hot Dog Song

If you were the parent, caregiver on grandparent of children between May 5, 2006, and November 6, 2016, you probably were singing along with and dancing to the Hot dog Song! This was the theme for the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse show which ran on DISNEY JUNIOR for a decade. Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, Daisy, and Donald all hang about at the Clubhouse. Pete a big cat and Clarabelle the cow also join in from time to time.

The origin of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse was in 2001 when the DISNEY CHANNEL premiered the series HOUSE OF MOUSE. PLAYHOUSE DISNEY Began working on a show for young children starring Mickey Mouse and his friends. They would solve problems like DORA THE EXPLORER in a clubhouse setting, Mickey, and the gang would guide the audience through stories that have play-along and singalong segments.

Mickey was educational

The show was not all fun and games as children learned early math skills, and how to identify numbers, patterns, and shapes. Mickey and his pals also have handy gear and gizmos that include the Mousekedoer, Mouseketool,s and a transportable device called Toodles. When the episode ends it’s time for the Hot dog dance. You probably know the words very well.

"Hot dog, hot dog, hot diggety dog

Now we got ears, it's time for cheers

Hot dog, hot dog, the problem's solved

Hot dog, hot dog, hot diggety dog!

Get up, stretch out, stomp on the floor

Hot dog, hot dog, hot diggety dog

Hot dog, hot dog, hot diggety dog

We're splittin' the scene, we're full of beans

So long for now from Mickey Mouse...

And the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse"!

Mickey. Minnie and Toodles

The root of it all

This tune was sung as the characters danced at the end of every episode of the Mickey Mouse Club House. It was performed by They Might Be Giants and Mickey. Every character on the show had their own individual dance moves and children and adults around the world stopped everything to join in by singing and dancing along with Mikey, Minnie, Pluto, Donald, and Daisy Duck. The Hot Dog Song was re-introduced in 2019 for the third season of Mickey and the Roadster Racers, which was later renamed Mickey Mouse Mixed-Up Adventures.

The song's name comes from the first words that Mickey spoke in the 1929 short The Karnival Kid. Prior to this, the cartoon rodent had not ever said a word for an entire year. In this shot, he has a hot dog cart and announces: "Hot dogs" ! The Hot Dog Song has been recorded in many different languages and extended versions have been released on at least two different albums: Playhouse Disney: Music Play Date and Disney Junior DJ Shuffle.

House of Mouse

The origin of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse goes back to 2001, with the classic Disney Channel series House of Mouse. Back then, Disney Channel was all about what it was named for and about Mickey Mouse. At the time Playhouse Disney was working on a show for little kids starring Mickey Mouse and his friends who would solve problems in a clubhouse (similar to that of Dora the Explorer but with Mickey characters).

The catchy tune has thrilled several generations of children and adults from all over the world and remains popular on the Internet. Creative fans have come up with all kinds of ways to remix the music based on their personal preferences. I recall my husband and I dancing along with our 3 grandchildren and singing the Hot Dog song several times a day for several months. As soon as the music began it was as if we were compelled to sing and dance along.

Universal appeal

The love for Mickey Mouse and the Hot dog song is universal. In the following video, it is being sung in Spanish, Russian, German, Polish and Italian. There are numerous online videos of children around the world dancing and singing to the familiar tune.

The Mickey Mouse clubhouse is not currently on the Disney JR line up but you can find episodes online. If it’s been a while since you’ve sung the hot dog song or danced to it you can click on these videos and take a trip down memory lane. You will also get a good workout in the process. “Hot Dog”!
