Dear Vocal Readers,

Oh, television, it sure knows how to pull at our heartstrings doesn't it? As the years have gone by my love for television has dwindled, but my days of obsession have yet to leave my thoughts. Just in case you forgot about all the painful experiences you've had when watching your favorite TV shows, here is a reminder! I will share five of the saddest episodes of television with you all today, and let's be real they are all because of the death of a beloved character. Yes, I know they are just television shows full of fictional characters, but you cried when Bambi's mom died too you monster! So join me with a box of tissues and cuddle up with that comfort blanket as I list off some of the saddest episodes television has to offer.

**And of course, a huge SPOILER WARNING! So if you don't want to spoil any shows, I would suggest you stop reading here.**

1. Memphis- This Is Us (Season 1, Episode 16)

We all knew it was coming, but when William inevitably died we all couldn't help but bawl our eyes out. After revisiting his past with his son, the lovable granddad finally met his end. His death was heart-breaking enough but to see him finally reconnect with his mother was the cherry on top that pushed it over the edge. Of course this is only one episode out of countless that made us cry, but it hit me the hardest out of all the rest.

2. Bad News- How I Met Your Mother (Season 6, Episode 13)

I don't think anyone was expecting this one. The show is a comedy, so how could it be sad? Well, we were all proved wrong with this episode. When Marshall finally gets the good news he has been waiting to tell his father, we see Lily tearfully get out of a cab to deliver the bad news to Marshall that his father and personal hero has died. If Marshall exclaiming he wasn't ready as he cries in Lily's arms wasn't enough, just wait because there is more. When you realize the show has been dropping subtle hints the entire episode with a countdown from 10 to 1, with 1 being found on the cab Lily came out of, it hurts even more. It is seriously worth the pain of watching it over to catch all the numbers because it is done so cleverly.

3. Silence Lay Steadily- The Haunting of Hill House (Season 1, Episode 10)

Picture from http://www.vulture.com/2018/10/the-haunting-of-hill-house-recap-season-1-episode-10.html

This episode had me crying almost the entire time. When we see Nellie save her beloved siblings and converse with them for the last time, that is the first knife to the heart. The finishing blows come with Olivia and Hugh's heartfelt reunion, the Dudley's final moments, and the realization that Hugh had sacrificed himself to save the kids he has always tried so desperately to protect. As Hugh's ghost tells Steve how much he loves him and how proud he is to have been his father, the dams controlling my tears suddenly gave way and let loose. If you didn't cry during this episode, I fear you may also be a ghost. Hugh made his final sacrifice, and damn was it a sacrifice.

4. Separate Destinations- Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (Season 1, Episode 10)

Here it is, the death that can make a grown man cry tears that sparkle that Alexander Louis Armstrong. Everybody's favorite fun-loving dad, Maes Hughes, met his bloody end in this gut-wrenching episode. It would have been hard enough to just witness his murder, but we are then subjected to the torture of watching his funeral as well. His daughter screaming to stop burying her father because he had to go to work tomorrow was just the tip of the sad bowl of ice cream. We then had to see (my personal favorite character ever) Roy Mustang shed a tear over the grave of his best friend. It really was a bad day for rain, and our tear ducts.

5) Death's Door- Supernatural (Season 7, Episode 10)

Bobby dangum Singer was the father Sam and Dean deserved. Now if you have seen any season of Supernatural you would know that well, everybody dies at some point. So of course this was only one time we have seen Bobby die, but this was the most final death of our favorite idjit. This death is just one of many heart-crushing deaths in the series (like my boy Gabriel who I've had the displeasure of watching die like how many times now?) but Bobby was different. Sam and Dean standing over him realizing he is truly going away this time was bad enough but his last words? Crying, crying all the way home.

So there you have it! Five television episodes and deaths that made me and most likely you or others shed a tear. With my record of television shows I am sure to make another list like this at some point in the future, so if you want to be sad again just you wait. If you want more lists like this or similar to this leave a like and I will be sure to waste more of my time recounting television shows instead of being an adult. I will take any excuse at this point honestly so please, like away.

Sincerely from my television-loving and sad mind,

Kacie
