The End Of The F***ing World is famous for its unique sense of humor, and the series' funniest, most sarcastic, angsty character has to be Alyssa. She lives with her mother and stepfather and their newborn twins, goes to a school she has no interest in, and abandons her clique to join James - a self-diagnosed resident psychopath.

Alyssa is intrigued by him because he's different. She's different, too, so they make a great duo. Eventually, they fall in love. Even though a number of traumatic events come between them, Alyssa manages to retain her sense of humor and delivers a number of great lines through it all.

10. FUNNY: "Oh, He's Like A Paste."

James is forced to carry around his father's ashes for the entire second season, so naturally, some misfortune would befall them. When he's finally figured out where he wants to scatter them, he's horrified to discover that after everything, his dad's gotten wet. He shows Alyssa, who sympathetically says, "Oh, he's like a paste."

James decides to leave him there, anyway, because it's where his parents met (before it was turned into a road bridge). He splatters his father's remains unceremoniously onto the concrete - a notably similar conclusion to season one I Am Not Okay With This, another Netflix series that shares the same creators, based on another Charles Forsman comic.

9. HEARTBREAKING: "I Really Need To Cry."

Most of the time, when Alyssa needs to cry, her voiceover doesn't take note of it. During the two seasons, we come to know Alyssa as a seemingly emotionless person whom nothing can affect. Of course, this isn't true, and she's simply concealing her emotions most of the time.

This time, as she's standing at the reception to a motel, she covers up her emotion with dull humor. Alyssa requests "a double room with a double bed for double sex" but she actually wants to cry. In the room, she retreats to the bathroom to let out her tears, but she brushes James off when he asks if she's okay, despite telling him to stand up for himself in the previous scene.

8. FUNNY: "I've Seen You Skating. You're Pretty Shit."

When Alyssa decides to introduce herself to James, she seems to think that insulting him will be the best way to get him to like her. He kindly tells her to "F*** off" but decides to hang out with her anyway. What Alyssa doesn't know, however, is that he plans to kill her.

He carries around a knife for the first few episodes, waiting for the right moment, always putting it off. Alyssa is blissfully unaware, or maybe chooses not to notice, or doesn't care. She never addresses the issue explicitly, but this would be an interesting topic to bring up if a third season ever happens.

7. HEARTBREAKING: "You Can't Just Make People And Then Abandon Them. They'll Think They've Done Something Wrong Their Entire Life."

Alyssa has desperately been clinging on to the hope that her father will help her and James out of the mess they've gotten themselves into. When they first meet up with him, she's excited and totally blinded to any of his flaws or strange mannerisms. She's waited her entire life to meet him properly, and she truly believes he cares about her.

Unfortunately, this proves not to be true. He abandoned her as a child, and he's never cared about her, despite how much Alyssa might want him to, and despite how much she's fooled herself into believing he does. But that doesn't erase the question of why he abandoned her.

6. FUNNY: "It's Not A Film."

When James crashes the car he stole from his dad, Alyssa laughs, but then realizes they've now lost their sole means of transportation. They decide to get out of the car and assess the damage.

James, his shirt still in the car, asks Alyssa if she thinks the car will explode. She gives him one of her trademark scathing glares and replies, "It's not a film." They start bickering, but Alyssa walks away, James following - when the car explodes, adding a punchline to this scene's perfectly timed comedy. It also serves as a great establishment of the series' distinguished tone, which sets this show apart from its contemporaries.

5. HEARTBREAKING: "You Can Think You've Run Away From Something But Actually You've Been Carrying It With You The Whole Time."

This quote comes early in the season 2 finale, not long after the police show up at the cafe, where Bonnie has just attempted to kill herself. Obviously, the events have been traumatizing, but Alyssa's tone is casual and hollow. Now that all of the action has passed, she needs to sort through everything that's happened.

She realizes that she's never fully processed the events of the first season, either, so this reflection is a great way to begin to wrap things up in the finale. Now that she's a young woman, she's mature enough to think things through and work through her emotions. In the final scene, she even admits that she needs psychological help.

4. FUNNY: "I Can't Believe I Didn't Know His Middle Name Was Alan."

Alyssa has some doubts about marrying Todd, but she assumes that it's natural for a bride to feel this way on her wedding day. But viewers can see that something isn't right. Todd is gazing at her adoringly while her own eyes flit about and she forces tiny smiles.

When she's finally asked whether or not she takes Todd Alan King to be her lawfully wedded husband, she's silent. An odd expression crosses her face, and we expect her to realize that she's making a mistake, but the only thing her voiceover says is, "I can't believe I didn't know his middle name was Alan." Cut to a scene with James.

3. HEARTBREAKING: "You Can Get Stuck In A Place And Not Even Realize It. If You're Not Careful, You Can Get Stuck There Forever. Like Bonnie."

As things come to a head in the season 2 finale, Alyssa becomes increasingly introspective. She doesn't tell anyone what she's thinking or feeling, maybe because she's still trying to figure that out for herself.

She's spent a lot of time trying to ignore and forget what happened at Clive Koch's house in season 1, but in truth, she's never been able to get over it. She's been stuck there as much as Bonnie has been clinging to her memories of Clive. Bonnie is so protective of those memories because they're the only happy ones she has, and she's so determined to safeguard them that she ignores all reason.

2. FUNNY: "I Will Have A Great Big Banana Sh*t With Extra F***ing Cherries All On Top Of It."

Alyssa has a special talent for offending people. On their first date, she and James visit the local diner. After the waitress comments on her large order, Alyssa laughs and proceeds with her order, finishing with "an extra f***ing spoon". She mockingly apologizes to the offended waitress and repeats her order as above.

The waitress calls for Marvin, while Alyssa yells, "Oh, yeah, go and get Marvin! See if Marvin can make a banana split for me, you f***ing c***!" And she leaves the diner, slamming the door on her way out, shouting, "Bye, Marvin!" James smiles sheepishly at the waitress as his voiceover calmly observes, "It seemed that Alyssa had some issues."

1. HEARTBREAKING: "I'm Always In That House. I'm Always In That Room. I Can't Get Out."

As Bonnie debates whether or not to shoot Alyssa and James, Alyssa tries to reason with her, but she's oddly calm. She's accepted that she's about to die, but she still doesn't want Bonnie to live the rest of her life consumed by guilt.

Bonnie says that they have to be punished for what they did to Clive, and Alyssa asks, "You think we weren't?" And it's true - they've already punished themselves enough. Even though Alyssa didn't really kill him, and even though it was self-defense, she still relives those memories every day as if she had murdered him.
