The Conflict with Joe

Netflix and chill. The perfect combination on a Friday night. I recently binged my way through all fifteen seasons of Grey’s Anatomy and now I found another drama to follow called “you”. “You” is about a psychopathic stalker who comes off as “normal” through narration and perspective of the main character who happens to be the protagonist. Well, boys and girls not all protagonists are good. Joe is the classic example of an evil protagonist. It starts off innocent with a guy liking a girl, she introduces herself as Beck. And like anyone in this century looks up Joe looks up her social media profile. Then, we see him being kind to his neighbor's child name Paco. Again, this is a normal attitude. Joe gets jealous easily, he decides to torture Benji and then kills him because he saw Benji as an obstacle between Beck and him. So, he gets rid of him officially. Next, we see Joe get jealous of Peach, Beck’s best friend and he is at first in a weird friendly (I use the word friendly lightly here) competition where it is Joe 1 and Peach 0. He then starts to see what an influence Peach has on Beck’s life and finds a rock to solve all the problems. Like a coward he runs from the scene of the crime. Joe Goldberg worries that other people are manipulating Beck when realistically, he is isolating her from everyone she cared about. So he is manipulating Beck, but the problem is, he sees it as protecting her from everyone else. He goes on pretending and faking everything and Beck is constantly falling for it. Peach is then a victim to him, but he was unsuccessful and keeps putting himself against her and seems to be losing. Beck has no idea that Peach has a thing for her, she watches her, has photographs of her, her password to her computer is beckilicious even. Beck has now two stalkers as we find out. Peach wants Beck all to herself and no one else. Joe is standing in the way of that. Peach then plans to take Beck away to Paris and to live there. I know I would jump at the chance to live in Paris. Here is what I am thinking Peach knows Joe a little too well, she has broken into Joe's apartment and maybe she made a discovery about him, that Joe is unaware of, she possibly knows that is it Joe trying to kill her and stalking her. She could also know that Joe is actually has been stalking Beck for months, but she does not let on that she knows anything, much like Joe lets on that he is only learning about Beck, when in fact he has been watching her for months and learning everything about her through observation. Paco is where everything confuses me. Paco is constantly on the staircase reading while his mom and Ron are fighting again. Joe always acknowledges him and gives him books to read and gives him advice and tells him what he should and should not do about Ron. Paco then, tries to slip a sleeping pill t Ron and Joe saved Ron's life instead of calling the cops and claim that Ron had over dosed and fell in the hallway that would have protected Paco from being taken away from his mom, Ron would have either died, or been hospitalized and he would be out of Paco's life. Joe takes a serious beating from Ron and does not call the cops on him or press charges. Joe is like the parent that Paco does not have and I feel like that is why the audience is so conflicted on how they see Joe. However, Joe was in the same house as Peach and Beck and he just sneaks around and judging Peach for her every move even though he is doing the same thing to Beck. He is also obsessed with her and is judging Beck's decisions to stay friends with Peach. Beck gets drugged and is being touched by Peach and Beck immediately realizes what is happening and leaves the room. Now, this is where I feel bad about Beck, she has what she thinks is a best friend and a great boyfriend when really Peach and Joe are the worst for her. They both manipulate her constantly and are at a battle constantly. Peach is smart, and that's what keeps Joe and Peach alive. Peach shoots him and now I am not sure who's side I am on. Joe writes a suicide note in Peach's name and once again Joe wins, and that's what he constantly does. He wins, he is the stalker you never want in your life. After Peach's death, Joe takes care of Beck and he fills her fridge and he is an emotional support for her, but he is bad news. He keeps killing the people in Beck's life just to have her for herself. We know that he will keep doing it. So maybe it is not so confusing after all, he knows how to win every. single. time.
