While 2021 has mostly been Marvel's year in regard to new television content on Disney Plus, we are now just days away from the premiere of The Book of Boba Fett, the second major live-action Star Wars series to debut on the service, following The Mandalorian. The series follows Boba and his new partner, Fennec Shand (whom he rescued during the events of The Mandalorian), as they try to make a name for themselves in Tattooine's criminal underworld, taking over the territory once controlled by Jabba The Hutt. It will also contain flashback sequences, revealing how Boba survived his apparent death in Return of the Jedi.

While the seven-episode series will mostly focus on Boba and Fennec, The Mandalorian featured a number of notable guest characters throughout its first two seasons, including Ahsoka Tano, Bo-Katan Kryze, and Luke Skywalker. This has left many fans wondering whether The Book of Boba Fett could include similar big guest appearances.

Here's five characters who could make an appearance in the series.

1. Hondo Ohnaka

Hondo Ohnaka, an outlaw belonging to the Weequay species, first appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, leading his pirate crew, the Ohnaka Gang. Hondo's crew do not generally take sides in the conflict between the Republic and the Separatists, but will use the war to their advantage when the opportunity rises.

While many of Hondo's plans were thwarted by Jedi, he holds no ill-will towards them. During Star Wars: Rebels, Hondo grows particularly fond of the young Jedi Padawan, Ezra Bridger. His affection for the boy even inspires him to a rare moment of looking beyond his own interests in favour of helping Ezra and the crew of the Ghost liberate Ezra's home planet, Lothal, from empire control.

In Star Wars lore, Hondo's people, the Weequay, have leathery skin resistent to blaster fire, which made them popular as bodyguards to the Hutts. Though Hondo holds ownership of a few semi-legitimate businesses following Rebels, he is still at heart, an outlaw. It makes sense that he may come to investigate Fett and Shand's new leadership of Tattooine's seedy underbelly. Though this would be Hondo's first official live-action appearance, a model of what Hondo would look like in live action already exists, as an animatronic greeting guests in line to ride the 'Smuggler's Run' attraction at Disney's Star Wars: Galaxy's edge theme park.

2. Rotta the Hutt

Rotta the Huttlet, the infant son of Jabba the Hutt, appears as a major plot device in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated film, which served as an introduction to the series. Working secretly with Count Dooku, Jabba's Uncle Ziro has Rotta, the heir to the Hutt clan, kidnapped, and frame the Jedi. This would have put an end to negotiations between Jabba and the Galactic Republic over allowing them safe passage through Hutt-owned airspace, and also weakened Jabba's position in the clan, which would have allowed Jiro to seize power for himself. Luckily, Anakin Skywalker and his new Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, are able to rescue Rotta and return him to his Father.

Little is known of Rotta's fate after this point, apart from a brief mention of Jabba sending him away for safety later in the Clone Wars series. The Hutt Clan's power is said to have been severely weakened after the fall of the Empire, and considering Jabba was not a popular leader, some fans believe it unlikely that Rotta would have lived long after his Father's death. However, if he is alive, it is possible he might attempt to reclaim his Father's territory, meaning Boba Fett would have to deal with him at some point.

3. Qi'ra

Qi'ra, a scumrat from Corellia and the first love of Han Solo, first appeared in the film Solo: A Star Wars Story. Han is forced to leave her behind when escaping Corellia, but the pair are eventually reunited when Qi'ra's boss, the high-level Crimson Dawn operative Dryden Vos, sends her to join Han and his friends on a mission recover a valuable load of coaxium. Qi'ra ultimately kills Vos to save Han's life, but remains as a member of Crimson Dawn, now working under Darth Maul.

While Crimson Dawn at first appears to have gone defunct after Maul's death, a series of Star Wars comic stories reveal that Qi'ra spends years slowly rebuilding the organisation, with herself as it's new leader. The new Crimson Dawn secretly engineers conflict between the Hutts and the Empire, in the hope they will eventually destroy each other, creating a more level playing field for all those left behind.

Even if Qi’ra herself does not appear, the Crimson Dawn plot line could slot right into The Book of Boba Fett.

4. Din Djarin/The Mandalorian

Din Djarin, best known to Star Wars fans as The Mandalorian or simply Mando, is the central character of the TV series The Mandalorian. Mando spent two seasons trying to help Grogu, a young force-sensitive alien, reach safety with his own kind, before finally, and reluctantly handing him over to Luke Skywalker in the bittersweet season two finale.

In exchange for her help in rescuing Grogu from the evil Moff Gideon, Mando promised Bo-Katan Kryze a chance to battle Gideon for the Darksaber, a symbol of Mandalorian leadership, and that if the mission were to be successful, he would help her reclaim planet Mandalore. Unfortunately, Mando unintentionally throws a wrench into Bo-Katan’s plans when he defeats Gideon himself in the process of saving Grogu. Mandalorian tradition states the Darksaber can only be won in battle. With Grogu safe with Luke for now, many fans are expecting The Mandalorian season three to shift focus to the plans to reclaim Mandalore. However, they are also anticipating some conflict between Din Djarin and Bo-Katan Kryze over the Darksaber.

Boba Fett and Fennec Shand were also part of the Grogu rescue mission. Mando has a habit of seeking help from past allies, so it wouldn’t be out of the question for him to drop by Tattooine at some point in The Book of Boba Fett, possibly as a set up for The Mandalorian’s third season.

The series debuts soon on Disney Plus.
