'The Black Panther' Merch You Need in Your Life

Owning a Piece of Marvel's Biggest Movie to Date

All Hail King T'Challa!

At this point, calling Marvel’s The Black Panther a blockbuster feels like I’m short-changing this recent addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It’s more like a phenomenon… A cultural, cinematic and economic phenomenon.

In its opening week The Black Panther movie outpaced its other sisters in the MCU by shattering box-office records, dwarfing its nearest competition, 2012’s ‘The Avengers’, by $22 million and taking in more than a half of a billion dollars internationally in its first two weeks.

And that's not the only recordThe Black Panther has under its paws. It broke records for ticket pre-sales, it's the highest rated superhero movie on Rotten Tomatoes and had the biggest opening for any African American director.

But for Marvel and its parent company, Disney, movies are just the tip of the billion-dollar iceberg. You don’t need a marketing degree to predict what’s coming next.

There’s no doubt that everything from Black Panther toys to bedsheets will be flooding the aisle of every self-respecting department store happily willing to slake the thirst of MCU fans.

Disney Backs Movie with Massive Product Line

Black Panther breakout star Letitia Wright as T'Chala's sister Princess Shuri

In fact, Disney is planning to launch the largest product line ever for a non-sequel film to keep pace with the feverish enthusiasm behind this movie.

For those of us who wear our geekiness as a badge of honour, we unashamedly want to own the coolest merchandise the company comes up with.

Here are some products inspired by the Black Panther movie that does this amazing movie justice and can help you look cool in the process.

The Black Panther featured a battalion of strong women warriors called the Dora Milaje. They were all at once beautiful, strong, fierce and loyal.

If you found yourself relating to the women of this elite force, you may want to take a look at grabbing this awesome handbag that features the black panther logo and a rendition of T'Chala's silver necklace.

It's as strong and regal as the Wakandan King and had the benefit of making you look as cool as the African monarch... Well, nearly.

Minor Spoiler Alert! Shuri, who is a Wakandan princess and the sister of King T'Chala, is a scientific genius and has the benefit of owning her own ultra high-tech laboratory. When her brother enters her workspace as king for the first time, she teases him about the open toe sandals he is wearing.

If the king entered wearing these black panther kicks though, there's no doubt she wouldn't be screaming "What are thooose?"

Now, there are going to be many amazing Black Panther t-shirts out there (as a matter of fact you can see a whole slew of them), but the reason I think this one is particularly awesome is the massive panther logo on the side.

It's not technically an understated design but for those who are not in the know—which may not be a whole lot of people by the time this movie has completed its run—a second look may be required before they figure it out.

And if you have already, go watch it again and take someone who hasn't with you. Even if you have missed the majority of the movies in the MCU, The Black Panther works as a stand-alone film, so you don't have to worry about missing out on any background information.

There will always be hype surrounding blockbusters (or in this case a blockbuster series) but there won't be many times in a lifetime that you can get in on the ground floor of a cultural phenomenon. Justifiably, many see this as more than just another successful movie.

Wakanda forever!
