It's Christmas, so the time has come for us to enjoy one of life's best pleasures: Christmas movies. In case you're tired of the "traditional" Home Alone, Hard to Kill, or Other, here are the best Christmas movies released in 2021.

This year we even had an absolute record of Christmas movies and series, their number doubling compared to 2016. Of course, this does not necessarily mean that we also had a record of good movies and series, many of them being more full of clichés. then the Christmas wishes of politicians.

But I leafed through the many productions that you wouldn't leave the TV on even while making a beef salad, and I've put together a list of, I say, some of the best Christmas movies released in 2021, even if some don't impress. through originality. Here are the ones:

A Boy Called Christmas

The early days of Santa Claus are reimagined as an epic story in A Boy Called Christmas.

British actress Maggie Smith, whom viewers will remember from the Harry Potter movies, plays an eccentric aunt who tells her nieces and nephews the story of Nikolas, an ox who lived a long time ago in Finland and started on an adventure to find hope in a dark time.

Nikolas' story brings together beloved elements of Christmas (elves, reindeer, gifts) in a saga reminiscent of the Chronicles of Narnia. It's a funny and fun new approach to the story of Christmas in which Santa Claus is transformed into the kind of hero who could team up with Harry Potter.

Love Hard

For a romantic comedy, the story of Love Hard is unique. Natalie (played by Nina Dobrev) recounts her unhappy love life for a website in Los Angeles but thinks she broke her bad luck when she met Josh on Tinder.

But when she flies to New York to surprise her, she discovers that Josh is a childhood friend of the guy in the pictures who used the photos of his best-looking friend on Tinder.

Josh offers to stick with her dream man if she pretends to be his girlfriend in front of the family. What happens next is pretty predictable, but Yang and his neighbor Dobrev (from Bulgaria) make comedy a delight, despite the occasional syrupy lines.

A Castle for Christmas

Brooke Shields plays a successful writer who is disillusioned with the way her latest book was received. But she finds her inspiration after a visit to Scotland to a castle for sale that comes with an attractive duke played by Cary Elwes.

The surprise is that he refuses to move before Christmas, so they have to live together for 90 days. It's Christmas, romance is in the air, it's with a member of the royal family.

But let's be honest: the movie has a lot of clichés, but the real attraction is Brooke Shields. No matter what, whether you're a fan of the genre or not, romantic comedies are an intrinsic part of Christmas cinema.

8-Bit Christmas

Nostalgia reaches its peak in 8-Bit Christmas, a film about Winslow Fegley, a 10-year-old boy with a story that will surely evoke everyone's memories: he wants that ONE unique gift he deserves for Christmas.

In this case, the gift happens to be the most desired gift of the year by all children, or boys at least: the newest console that comes with the coolest video game of the '80s.

With a narrator in the person of the unmistakable Neil Patrick Harris, who plays the role of the now-grown boy, the film comes with a strong vibe of How I Met Your Mother and will surely delight fans of the beloved series and more. From what we can see from the trailer, it seems that the producers wanted to get exactly into that vein of nostalgia.

Father Christmas is Back

Father Christmas is Back is a British comedy about four sisters in not very good relationships who meet again at Christmas under the same roof of the mansion where they grew up. A situation with already explosive potential becomes even more incendiary after the surprise appearance of their father, whom they have not seen for years with his new girlfriend.

The misunderstandings that arise reveal a long-repressed secret that led to the break-up of the family.

Indeed, the film doesn't have the brightest ratings on the review sites, but it's hard for me to believe that it could be a very bad movie starring John Cleese, Elizabeth Hurley, and Kelsey Grammer.

The Princess Switch: Romancing the Star (A Royal Exchange 3)

Vanessa Hudgens is back for a third franchise title A Royal Exchange. This time the plot revolves around a stolen Christmas relic and the hunt for a mysterious thief.

As in the first two films, Hudgens plays the role of Margaret Delacourt, Duchess of Montenegro; Juliette De Novo Wyndham, Princess of Begravie; and Lady Fiona Pembroke, Margaret's cousin because one actress is enough for all three characters.

Released by Netflix on November 18, the latest film A Royal Exchange is one of the most-watched Christmas movies on the American streaming platform, which is not surprising: not many seasonal movies reach a third title.

A Naija Christmas (A Nigerian Christmas)

For those who are open to more exotic movies, this Nigerian comedy offers three love stories in one Christmas movie.

After their mother goes through a serious health scare, three brothers rush to find their husbands before Christmas to fulfill their last wish (and to inherit the family home).

From what we can see in the trailer, the movie promises to be funny - comedies from "Nollywood" are almost always - and it comes with a question that many readers will surely hear at Christmas: "And when we have grandchildren? "

Oh, and of course don't forget Don't Look Up, the blockbuster proposed by Netflix for Christmas with Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Timothée Chalamet, Ron Perman, Ariana Grande, and many others.
