The 10 Best Episodes of 'The Mentalist'

And Why They're Worth Watching in 2 Sentences or Less

Episode descriptions MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS if you have never seen the show before.

At the very least, I recommend having an idea of what the show's premise is before reading this article.

The Mentalist was one of those shows that I fell in love with the first time I saw it and rewatching it was not a disappointing experience. The only downside is that it was difficult to narrow down this list.

There are so many wonderful episodes to choose from. This show is massively entertaining from beginning to end. On top of that, it has a delightful group of characters (all played by such talented people) and a bunch of different dynamics, all with alluring chemistry.

That being said, as difficult as it was, I obviously managed to pick out the best episodes (in my opinion) so without further ado, here are the top 10 episodes of The Mentalist with a very brief explanation why.

10) 3x13: Red Alert

He may be a hostage but that won't stop Patrick Jane from using his usual tricks and skills to solve a murder and save not only himself but the people with him.

9) 2x11: Rose-Colored Glasses

An old mystery slowly unfolds with the help of Rigsby who goes undercover as a classmate at a high school reunion in a plot that has some hilarious moments and touches of personal notes. It's definitely a fantastic experience to see Rigsby not only in a different light but also being front and centre for this episode.

8) 3x23: Strawberries and Cream (part 1) + 3x24: Strawberries and Cream (part 2)

(These episodes work better when watched together hence why they're sharing a spot.)

A tense, action-packed two-parter that raises the stakes for many of the characters we know and love as things get up close and personal. Some good and bad choices are made that will impact not just the story, but also the characters moving forward.

7) 1x18: Russet Potatoes

Hypnosis plays a huge part in making this episode unique compared to what's come before it and results in a story that's well-balanced in drama and comedy. As well as walking the line between believable and unbelievable as the team try to figure out what is going on and how.

6) 6x15: White as the Driven Stone

An intense episode as things get very personal for the CBI team as they race against the clock when things become a matter of life or death for members of the team.

5) 6x22: Blue Bird

Jane and Lisbon have such a wonderful dynamic and this episode is a fantastic one for them as it explores what the future might hold. With a chemistry that is always alluring and full of depth, this episode does not disappoint.

4) 5x02: Devil’s Cherry

A wonderful episode that taps into a very personal side to Jane which brings out both high points and low points in his world as the episode juggles a variety of emotions expertly. And, as The Mentalist often does so well, there's a delightful amount of comedy thrown in too.

3) 4x21: Ruby Slippers

An episode that is full of found-family vibes that truly allows us, the audience, to get close to the witnesses and victims as a case that's not so straightforward gradually unfolds.

2) 1x16: Bloodshot

Jane having to rely on his other senses when his vision becomes impaired results in an episode that is both intriguing and surprisingly hilarious.

1) 5x05: Red Dawn

An intriguing and entertaining look at how Jane met Lisbon and the rest of the CBI team along with how the past compares with and affects the present.

This is my own list so whether it's on here or not, do you have a favourite episode? I'd love to know!
