The Ugly Truth of Being a POC Cosplayer
Cosplay has helped me make numerous friends at conventions, make memories, gained a moderate following on social media (specifically on TikTok), and allowed me to express myself. However, with the good, comes the bad. POC stands for person of color. It’s also known as non-white. These are cosplayers who dress up as characters who are not white. We’re often told by others that we’re either the wrong race or body type for a specific cosplay. The most common thing I’ve heard from people is “(insert character here) is not black.” I’ve been doing cosplay since 2014 and still love it. Unfortunately, I’ve occasionally been the target of racial and sometimes bigoted attacks towards me on social media because of two cosplays I love doing.
Mark Wesley PritchardPublished 2 years ago in GeeksI Please Meet My Alter Ego: Vessa Ull Dottir`
Hello my friends, I would like to introduce you to my alter ego, Vessa Ull Dottir’. I am a Viking maiden, half-breed of god and man. You see the “Ull” is a Viking god of archery and Dottir’ means daughter. Like many people throughout the United States, I too participate in reenactment groups. I was a member with the Society of Creative Anachronism (SCA) for many years. My fellow geeks in history reside in this world and we all can be who we want to be. One event at a time.

Author's preface: This incident happened about three years ago. Since that time I have seen a few similar vehicles on various roadways around the country. Seems to be sort of a thing. None could compare to this, none have come even close.
Everyday JunglistPublished 2 years ago in GeeksDisney Halloween Looks 2021
'Tis the season to get spooky! Halloween has arrived once again - and it's honestly one of my favourite times of the year. Every year, I experiment with different make-up looks and pick out my favourites for the night out - and let's be honest we all need a good party this year as we are finally allowed out after Covid, so if I even remember going out this season - well , I didn't make up for lost time enough.

Once upon a time... I used to love to cosplay. But since my weight gain, I have struggled to have the confidence to ever since.

I think I have some Trekkie street cred. My tiny, toddler butt was planted in front of the TV when Star Trek debuted in 1966, and since then I’ve seen every episode of every show multiple times. Same for the movies, even the J.J. Abrams alt-universe versions. I have two uniforms and attend conventions. To say I love the Star Trek universe is to understate the state of my world.

Every workday, one of my best friends, who I call Kitten, texts me in the morning to see how things are. However, this morning, when she asked me what I was up to, I told her I was remembering that Halloween. Her return text was filled with laughing-crying emojis along with the message: “OMG lol, that was hilarious! My dreams of being a corpse on a cop show died that day.”
Elder Witch
Eldership, radical time in one’s life. One, at this period in their lives, find many ways to be genuinely themselves. The individual finds unique things that make them happy. I am so thankful that I am at this stage of life for I am finding many new things that brings me happiness. My children have grown and I have been blessed with a grandbaby and boy does he make me happy. Outside of my family, it is now time for me to shine and be happy the way I want to. Radical, loony perhaps, mayhem is possible, fun is likely and I make no apology for the decision I have made. As I adventure into my elder years I do so in freedom. I have been through much, became a warrior for my self-wellbeing, I have transformed in ways that I have no desire to share with you all. I have hidden my truths long enough and I am coming out at an Elder Witch.

Corinne Del CidPublished 3 years ago in GeeksHow does cosplaying online bring me inner peace?
If you have been active on social media in recent years then I am sure you have come across the phenomenon known as “cosplay”. A few things may jump to mind about what exactly “cosplay” is such as dress ups, anime characters, TikTok videos and comic book conventions. While all are relevant and truthful to some extent, this obscure and possibly hard to understand pastime has made its way into the deepest crevasse of my heart and secured itself as one of the front runners in how I bring myself inner peace.
Super Girl Passed By
I arrived late in the day at the strange makeshift alien outpost. The outpost, nestled in a large hotel ballroom, was only here for the weekend. It was one of the small regional comic conventions, the kind they have every few months in this part of the country. Alien, because it was peopled with the usual array of costumed characters. Crowds at these events usually consist of adorable face-painted kids in homemade costumes, teens too cool to get dressed up, and the hardcore fans in full cosplay. Often the latter are clad in plastic storm trooper uniforms, ghost buster jumpsuits, or federation red and black. These folks don’t come out of character except maybe to pose for a picture.
