Which One Is For You?

In this digital era, ebooks are becoming the standard format for reading books. And two of the most popular devices for reading ebooks are tablets and e-readers. But which one is the right one for you?

My aim is to give you a brief answer to this question today.

Tablet Is for You If…

A tablet is not just a reading device. It is essentially a computer and smartphone that allows you to do all the things those devices can. So, if you find it inconvenient to carry a separate device for reading, then a tablet is the ideal choice.

A tablet is usually 10 to 11 inches, while most e-readers are 6 to 7 inches in length. You can read all your favorite ebooks on a larger screen and with more flexibility. And tablets allow you to do much more than just read ebooks, compressing the role of a computer in a more portable, manageable package.

Tablets are perfect for people who like to carry minimal accessories. It is perfect for reading on the job, as you perform other tasks at the same time you read.

Bear in mind that tablets can do much more than ebook readers. For example, sometimes, I don't want to read the ebook. Sometimes, I want to watch a movie on Netflix while lying on the beach. In cases like this one, I prefere tablet over eReader.

The bad side of eReader is that I need to find a big shadow for watching and reading in the Sun since the screen is not made for using it under the Sun at noon.

eReader Is for You If…

But say, you are someone who does not want to spend a lot of money on a reading device. Rather you want a dedicated reading device that requires minimal maintenance. And you want something that is more convenient to carry around and better for your eyes.

Well, then an e-reader is the way to go. Most e-readers are available at half the price of your average tablet, ranging between $90 to $150. It is lighter, cheaper, more comfortable to hold, and lasts for a much longer period.

For example, once fully charged, the Kindle Paperwhite e-reader will last for 6-8 weeks. Most tablets fail to last an entire day of continuous use.

Another advantage you get with an e-reader is privacy. People cannot call you or send messages to this device. You can simply switch your active phone to silent and enjoy an uninterrupted session of reading anytime.

All this comes together to make e-readers the ideal reading companion on vacations. You know, a time when you do not want to be disturbed much by the outside world. It will simply be you and your favorite ebooks.

What you may didn't know is that eBook readers also allow you to purchase audio books. You just need to connect your Bluetooth headphones to the device and enjoy listening. So, if you thought that your phone or maybe tablet is more convenient for audio books, think again.

What I'm missing here is color. I like to read comic books (especially Avatar) and the experience is not the same when everything is black and white. In this case, the tablet would give you a better reading experience. Trust me.

Conclusion

In conclusion, e-readers and tablets both have perks adn downsides. Pick the one that suits your lifestyle the best and enjoy your pastime. I believe my short guide will help you with the decision.
