Stuart Review: "Spoiler: Stuart Makes a Wallet"

When I entered Week 4 of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, I did so feeling quite special. I mentioned that good feeling after watching the first episode, and that same feeling after watching the second episode. This was different. This was the feeling after watching the new series' first villainess. As we know, Episode 1.03 saw our heroes in a world where magic was real, and scientists were deemed as evil. Needing magic to repair their device, Stuart and Kripke went to a powerful sorceress--Bernadette. Turns out Bernadette didn't exactly have her powers, and she needed the blood of an innocent to get her juices back.

We also saw a very powerful Wil Wheaton, who warned the group that Bernadette was actually a demon. It falls on deaf ears, but as we would see, Dr. Beverly Crusher's baby boy was telling the truth. Bernadette was an evil demon, and with her mojo back, she was looking to take the device, but the group escaped, with Stuart in a psychiatric hospital. Oh man.

That is where we came in, with Stuart meeting with his psychiatrist:

One week after we see Howard Wolowitz's better half as a demented demon, we see Sheldon Cooper's better half, Amy Farrah Fowler, as Stuart's psychiatrist. She listens as Stuart states everything that's happened, and while I expected Amy to kinda call him nuts, she doesn't, but she obviously doesn't believe him, either. We see a brief showing of drawing of troll Alexa, penguin Kripke, and demon Bernadette, and we also see Stuart visited by Denise, who is Stuart's wife and the mother of their children in this universe.

So Stuart thrives to get better, and the soundtrack to his road to recovery is "Everybody's Working for the Weekend" by Loverboy, a song that I do love (mainly because of Chris Farley and Patrick Swayze's memorable "Chippendales" SNL sketch). Stuart's released, and he discovers that he's a famous artist, more specifically "asshole famous," which is what we all strive to be. Oh, and Stuart's art: the images from the multiple universes.

As for Bert, he owns that gallery, and as for Kripke, he's married--to Chad. WOW! We also catch a glimpse of the welcome mat trying to communicate with Stuart, and as for Stuart's shop, one of the comics being sold: Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. The comic actually has an ad for the device, and Stuart orders it, and later uses it after telling Denise that the universe they're in isn't real.

The quartet find themselves in The Matrix (according to Bert, technically, they're out of the Matrix; I really need to watch those movies), but their stay isn't long. Stuart notices a rip in the universe, and once they tear it, they're back in their normal people clothes and are of to another universe. The quartet lands in what looks like a forest, and they are surrounded by the natives, setting up a tale for another episode.

"Spoiler: Stuart Makes a Wallet," episode 1.04 of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, hit HBO Max on August 13, 2026. I did enjoy the beginning, which gave Cuckoo's Nest (yet another movie I need to watch) vibe, and saw Mayim Bialik back as Amy Farrah Fowler. It's only been two years since Bialik appeared in the role, as she previously appeared in the final episode of Young Sheldon. Bialik wasn't the only special guest star, as we also saw Jon Cryer (Alan Harper from Two and a Half Men) as a shirpa who appeared to Stuart.

You'll notice that I referred to the episodes as "1.03" or "1.04." There's a reason for that. One day after the latest episode aired, we received the good news that Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is getting a second season! This is not surprising news to me; people still love The Big Bang Theory, and this show is BBT turned up to about a thousand! So yeah, we will get more wild shenanigans involving Stuart Bloom and company, with Season Two most likely coming in 2027, which will see BBT turn 20!
