Stop Cancel Culture

Art should be thought provoking.

Hello My Love,

As time goes on, people fight and argue about race, religion, and sexual orientation, I am growing tired of the selfishness and ignorance of others. Focused on judging everyone but themselves.

'Let us all point fingers at these artists because we do not like what thoughts came to OUR mind when we looked at THEIR art.'

Art is meant to make you question things. Explore thoughts and feelings you may have never experienced before.

Lyrics to a song, a dark painting, a movie that showcases the worst of humanity.

All these things are there to not only highlight how destructive humanity is, but also how we can heal the world. How we can take all this negativity and turn it into something positive. Something that could possibly change this social media filled world from hatred and negativity to thought-provoking conversations and acceptance.

This cancel culture on social media is truly horrific.

You all sound like children crying to your mommies because you didn't like something.

Newsflash, the world does not revolve around you.

No matter how many likes your photos or tweets get.

No matter how many aggressive third-wave feminist comments you make.

No matter how many times you "fight against the injustice of _______".

No matter how many times your thoughts and prayers go out to the people of such and such.

You bash a book or movie just by the cover...Seriously? Did your parents EVER teach you to NOT judge a book by its cover? And now here you are JUDGING!

Humans make mistakes. It is what happens. We fuck up, apologize, and move on. Those who fuck up really bad, they go to jail, serve their time and then come back a reformed member of society.

Now some, yes they do go back to their life of crime. Others however do not. They should never be judged for what they did in the past. Do you want to hold it against them? Fine, but do not ruin their lives or their careers because you think people will never change.

Guess what, they do.

Every seven years you are essentially a new human being. Every cell in your body has been replaced by a new cell. Not only that but as humans grow they explore, learn, read, and experience the world. You are not the same person you were 2 years ago, let alone 10 years ago.

And yet...here you are, joining the cancel culture movement because of something an artist did 10 years ago, 30 years ago. Look back on your life, an honest look now, can you seriously say that you have never, ever done anything that would be viewed as racist, sexist, discriminatory, and so on?

I didn't think so.

Everyone is guilty. Everyone has been wrong before.

Jumping on the bandwagon and following these trolls, these idiots down a path of negativity and hate makes you just like them. A lemming that will follow the crowd and jump off a cliff.

Being able to think for yourself, view all of this beautiful art around you, and realize that perhaps that artist created such a dark masterpiece because they themselves have been raped, they have been hurt, attacked, destroyed. They created this piece, whether it is a painting, movie, song, or novel because they want to take back their power. They want to own what happened to them.

They want to change their story.

Change your story, do not be a side character.

Do you want to make a difference? There is no better time than now.

Stop cancel culture.

Thoughtfully yours,
