Going to a convention? Worried about if you’ll be safe or not? Well I have some tips on how you can stay safe at a convention. Whether it be an anime, comic, or gaming convention you still need to say safe. When you're new to conventions, also known as cons, there is a lot of people in large crowds, it's a very easy way to get separated from your group. Ways you can keep safe at a con is keeping your Phone on you and charged, if you go to raves or anywhere after dark at a con take someone with you and alerting the staff. Other ways would be never going to a stranger’s hotel room and never taking open drinks or food from someone you don't know.

One way to stay safe at a con is to always keep your Phone and a charger on you at all times. Even if you think you won't need it some situations couldn't be solved with finding a con staff and you have to proceed to calling the police. Situations if staff can't be found you can always call a friend to come be with you so you're not alone. My DMs are always open on my Instagram (@scary.transcosplayer) if you ever need anything and I am at the same convention please don't be afraid of messaging me. I will come find you and sit with you if you need someone.

A second way you can stay safe at a convention is by having someone with you after dark. Whether you are going to the rave or not, after dark you need to be careful. Most of the people after dark are usually 18+ at some cons there is a lot of people drinking. If you are under 18 and planning to stay after dark, then make sure you have someone with you. Again, if you are alone and someone is harassing you please don’t be afraid to message me.

Third, you can always inform con staff of a situation. Most con staff are very friendly, and very helpful, but other con stuff are some of the ones you need to lookout for. Don’t let that stop you from telling them though, and if one of the staff members are the ones doing the harassing find con security. When you can’t find a staff member try to message a friend or if your family is with you and you have been separated or you’re old enough to go off on your own, message them. Therefore, I can not stress it enough to keep your phone and charger on you at all times.

I’m going to combine the last two together because they are pretty much common sense. Never follow a stranger to their hotel room and never take open food or drinks from a stranger. Like I said they are basically common sense, now if someone is trying to force you into their hotel yell, scream, do what ever it takes to get someone to notice. There have been cases of voice actors taking underage people to their hotel, just because they are famous or a voice actor never go to their room. NEVER. Not even if they say they’ll give you a free autograph. Even Instagram famous cosplayers have done it. For your safety please don’t. I’m not going to explain why you shouldn’t take an open drink or food from someone, it basically explains itself.

I hope I could help some newer cosplayers and convention goers stay safe. I know your first convention can be scary but don’t worry you can meet a lot of great friends through cosplaying. I met my husband and a lot of friends through cosplay. The more famous cosplayers are people just like you and me, so don’t be afraid to go up and say hi. Thank you for taking the time to read.
