Shikhandi (2026) blends horror, mythology, revenge and supernatural mystery into the story of Surya, Bhadra and seven restless spirits. Here is the complete movie story and ending explained.

Spoiler Warning: This article contains major spoilers for Shikhandi (2026), including Surya’s identity, Bhadra’s past and the complete ending.
Shikhandi Movie Story Explained
The Kannada movie Shikhandi begins with Surya, an orphan working with a team on an important hospital project. Surya appears normal around his friends, but underneath his confident personality is a lonely man who knows almost nothing about his parents or childhood.
Their client, Kavya, wants to build a hospital in her village because people living there struggle to receive medical treatment in time.
Surya and his colleagues travel to the village to inspect the construction site. Kavya introduces them to her father and his trusted assistant, Bhadra.
Initially, everything looks like a straightforward construction project. However, the village hides a violent past.
A powerful man named Rajendra does not want the hospital to be built because he wants control of the land. At the same time, strange supernatural events begin taking place around the guest house where Surya and his friends are staying.
Doors move mysteriously, disturbing sounds are heard at night and the group slowly becomes convinced that something supernatural is present.
But these spirits are not haunting the house without a reason.
Why Are the Spirits Following Bhadra?
A spiritual guru eventually reveals one of the movie’s biggest mysteries.
There are not one or two ghosts connected to the guest house.
There are seven spirits.
Even more surprisingly, they are not primarily interested in Surya or his friends. They have followed Bhadra.
This revelation becomes the gateway to the movie’s major flashback.
Years earlier, a good-hearted man named Vikram lived in the village. Although Vikram was respected for helping others, he and his wife were unable to have a child.
Vikram eventually visited a Shiva temple where he met seven transgender devotees. Their leader told him that if he allowed them to stay with his family and followed certain rituals, his wife could become pregnant.
Vikram agreed.
Eventually, his wife became pregnant and gave birth to a son.
The seven devotees became deeply attached to the child and cared for him like their own son.
Unfortunately, Vikram had also made a dangerous enemy.
Rajendra’s Plan Against Vikram
Rajendra was involved in illegal activities, and Vikram repeatedly stood against him.
Unable to defeat Vikram directly, Rajendra decided to attack the people who gave him emotional and spiritual strength.
Those people were the seven transgender devotees.
Rajendra hired Bhadra, who at that point in his life worked as a killer.
Bhadra tricked the seven devotees into coming to a temple and gave them food mixed with a substance that made them unconscious. They were then tied inside a deep pit.
The plan was to let rainwater fill the pit and kill them.
But nature did not cooperate.
Although clouds appeared, it did not rain.
Rajendra therefore ordered his men to artificially pour water into the pit using pipes, creating the effect of rainfall.
Unable to escape, all seven eventually died.
This horrifying incident explains why their spirits are still unable to find peace.
Why Did Bhadra Change?
Rajendra knew Bhadra could eventually expose the truth, so he ordered his own men to kill him.
Bhadra was badly injured but survived.
Meanwhile, Rajendra’s men attacked Vikram and his family.
During the chaos, Vikram’s young son became separated from his family. Bhadra, now beginning to regret everything he had done, found the child and helped save him.
A doctor later discovered the injured Bhadra and saved his life.
That doctor was Kavya’s father.
Not knowing anything about Bhadra’s criminal history, he eventually made Bhadra his trusted assistant.
From that point forward, Bhadra lived with enormous guilt over the deaths of the seven devotees.
But the flashback still has one final revelation.
Surya’s Real Identity Explained
Bhadra reveals that Surya is actually Vikram’s missing son.
The orphan who grew up without knowing anything about his parents is the same child who was once lovingly raised and protected by the seven transgender devotees.
Bhadra recognizes him partly because of a distinctive star-shaped birthmark on his body.
This explains why Surya has such a powerful supernatural connection with the spirits.
They are not trying to hurt him.
They have been connected to him since childhood.
As Surya learns the truth, fragments of his forgotten memories begin returning.
Now the conflict with Rajendra is no longer simply about building a hospital.
It has become deeply personal.
Shikhandi Ending Explained
Surya finally decides to confront Rajendra.
He challenges him and announces that the hospital project will continue and its opening ritual will take place regardless of Rajendra’s threats.
Rajendra responds exactly as expected.
He arrives with a large group of men and attacks everyone at the ceremony.
A huge fight begins.
Bhadra has arranged security, but Rajendra’s forces prove much stronger than expected. When it appears that Surya and his allies are about to lose, Bhadra realizes that only the seven spirits may be powerful enough to protect Surya.
Bhadra approaches the spirits and begs them for forgiveness.
Initially, they attack him because he was responsible for betraying and killing them.
But Bhadra tells them something that changes everything:
Vikram’s son is in danger.
The spirits immediately remember the child they once loved and protected.
They choose to save Surya.
All seven spirits enter Surya’s body, giving him extraordinary supernatural power.
With their strength flowing through him, Surya fights Rajendra’s men while the spirits also use their supernatural abilities to turn the battle in his favour.
One by one, Rajendra’s men are defeated.
Rajendra tries to escape, but there is nowhere left for him to run.
How Does Rajendra Die?
Rajendra receives a punishment that mirrors his own crime.
He is thrown into a pit similar to the one where the seven devotees were murdered.
Years earlier, Rajendra had been forced to create artificial rain because real rain never came.
This time, nature itself delivers justice.
Heavy rain begins falling.
The pit fills with water while Rajendra desperately begs for mercy.
Nobody saves him.
Rajendra eventually dies in the same terrifying manner that he once used to kill the seven innocent devotees.
His death completes the movie’s cycle of revenge.
What Happens to the Seven Spirits?
After Rajendra dies, the seven spirits finally leave Surya’s body.
For the first time, Surya is able to see them clearly.
This creates one of the most emotional moments in the movie because Surya finally understands that these were the people who cared for him when he was a child.
He thanks them for protecting him both in the past and present.
Their unfinished mission is finally complete.
The spirits bless Surya and peacefully leave, suggesting that they can finally move beyond the suffering that kept them connected to the living world.
Surya also gets a chance to move forward with his own life.
Kavya embraces him, and the two confess their love for each other. They decide to marry and begin a new life together.
What Is the Mahabharata Connection in Shikhandi?
The movie uses the idea of Shikhandi as a symbolic foundation for its revenge story.
Instead of simply creating a conventional ghost story, the film connects past injustice with revenge returning in another form.
The seven spirits become protectors as well as instruments of justice, while Surya becomes the person through whom their unfinished battle can finally end.
That mythology-inspired connection is what separates Shikhandi from a standard haunted-house movie.
Shikhandi Movie Ending Meaning
At its core, Shikhandi is about injustice returning to confront the people responsible for it.
Bhadra committed terrible acts but eventually acknowledged his guilt and tried to protect the child whose family he helped destroy.
Rajendra, on the other hand, never showed remorse.
That is why their endings are completely different.
Bhadra receives an opportunity for redemption, while Rajendra experiences the same suffering he once inflicted on others.
For Surya, discovering his identity finally answers the question that haunted him throughout his life: Who were his parents, and where did he truly belong?
By the end, Surya not only discovers his past but also finds a family, love and a purpose for his future.
Shikhandi’s ending therefore completes three stories at once — Surya discovers his identity, Bhadra confronts his guilt, and the seven spirits finally receive justice.
