Shall We Find Jaime Parting Ways With Cersei In The Final Season of 'Game Of Thrones'?
81 minutes and a million questions.
With the release of the final episode of the penultimate season, we find a bunch of important events packed into a staggering 81 minutes. From the revelation of Jon being a Targaryen (oh wait! we knew that) to the beast burning down the Wall, the only thing which remained foreseeable was Cersei's cunning move to gain an upper hand and Jaime's fruitless attempts to persuade her. Or did you really think for a moment that Cersei Lannister, who blew up a Sept along with hundreds of people, just agreed to step down and fight alongside her enemy?
But shall we see Jaime wearing Lannister cloaks in Season 8? Jaime is already on the edge of a cliff and the only thing preventing him from falling into the depths of realization is his love for Cersei. But after the season finale, cracks have started appearing in that too. We find him storming away from Cersei, enraged. And his face suggested that he was trying to keep himself from shouting, 'Enough!' to Cersei's face. But would he betray Cersei and cross over to the other side?
Jaime is true to his word. He doesn't keep 'conquering the world' as his top priority and make decisions based on it, unlike his sister. This Jaime is very different from the shrewd Kingslayer we found in Season 1. Jaime's character has undergone massive changes in this long course and has induced sympathy in viewers for him.
"I made a promise"
Jaime had no idea of Cersei's clever move and when Cersei tells him of her plan he disagrees, reminding her of their promise. He is definitely not cool with how she is behaving. If he feels Cersei's lust for power overpowering her, it's plausible that he would change sides over to Daenerys.
Jaime knows they are fighting a losing war. They can't possibly hope to win against the Starks and Targaryens on a battlefield. And they can't defeat the Army of the Dead on their own, if Daenerys fails. He knows that all that matters now is The Great War and it's already at the door. He tries to convince Cersei but she won't listen. He is even more enraged to learn that she had plotted with Euron to ensure that her cunning move works. Euron is already irksome to Jaime. And also, there is the probability of Euron turning out to be the cause of Cersei's pregnancy. Highgarden's gold might have bought them The Golden Company but that won't make much of a difference if it's the dead they are facing. Jaime needs to choose the right path for himself.
But the ultimate push which might finally convince Jaime to change sides was when Ser Gregor unsheathed his sword on Cersei's nod.
"I don't believe you"
It's his love for Cersei which had always kept him beside her forever. That was why he had pushed Bran out of the window which resulted in The War of the Five Kings. But if Cersei goes on like this, that last string which held them will soon be fragile enough and Jaime is gonna break free.
Cersei needs to be careful enough. The last time when Jaime had tried to talk sense in her, she had tackled him by using the news of her pregnancy. It wouldn't save her every time and eventually Jaime would leave her side.
