Shah Rukh Khan’s King vs Avengers: Doomsday — Can SRK Rule Christmas 2026?

Arriving only six days after Marvel’s biggest superhero event, Shah Rukh Khan’s King could turn Christmas 2026 into an extraordinary battle between Bollywood power and Hollywood spectacle.

For years, Bollywood fans have debated which Indian actor could seriously challenge Shah Rukh Khan at the box office. However, Christmas 2026 is about to introduce a much bigger question: can Hollywood’s most powerful superhero franchise survive the arrival of SRK’s King in India?

This is not an ordinary Bollywood clash. It is not even a traditional same-day competition.

Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday is officially scheduled to arrive in cinemas on December 18, 2026, while Shah Rukh Khan’s King will follow on December 24, 2026. That gives the Marvel blockbuster only six days to establish complete control before one of India’s biggest stars enters the battlefield.

Avengers Gets the First Move

There is no denying the scale of Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel is bringing together characters connected to the Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men and several other corners of its cinematic universe. Robert Downey Jr. is also returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom rather than Iron Man, making the film one of Marvel’s most ambitious projects.

The official cast includes Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Pedro Pascal, Florence Pugh, Tom Hiddleston, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart and many other major names. On paper, it looks like a global cinematic event designed to dominate theatres.

However, releasing first does not guarantee that Doomsday will retain every premium screen after King arrives.

Superhero movies usually generate enormous opening-week interest because dedicated fans want to watch them immediately and avoid spoilers. By the time King reaches theatres on Christmas Eve, much of Marvel’s core audience may already have watched Doomsday.

That could give theatre owners in India a strong reason to transfer a significant number of screens to the fresher release—especially if advance bookings for King are massive.

King Is Not Just Another Bollywood Release

The title may sound simple, but the expectations surrounding King are enormous.

Red Chillies Entertainment describes the movie as “A New Shah Rukh Khan Experience,” suggesting that audiences may see a significantly different version of the superstar. The film is directed by Siddharth Anand, reuniting him with SRK after Pathaan.

That combination alone makes the movie commercially powerful.

Siddharth Anand understands large-scale action, stylish presentation and the art of turning a superstar into a larger-than-life theatrical figure. With King, the challenge will be to create something darker, more emotional and more dangerous than SRK’s previous action spectacles.

The biggest competition may therefore not be Shah Rukh Khan versus Marvel.

It may be Shah Rukh Khan versus his own legacy.

After delivering some of the biggest theatrical moments of his career, SRK cannot return with an ordinary action movie. The film needs a memorable character, powerful emotions, outstanding music and action sequences that feel genuinely fresh.

What About the Viral King Photo?

A dark and intense image reportedly connected to King has recently circulated across social media. It allegedly shows Shah Rukh Khan dressed in black and confronting an enemy with a violent, mass-action attitude.

Some fans believe the image is AI-generated. Others claim it comes from a leaked 20-second video that could be connected to an upcoming teaser.

There is also speculation that the teaser may be attached to theatrical screenings of Ramayana. However, these claims have not been officially confirmed by Red Chillies Entertainment or the filmmakers at the time of writing.

Therefore, the viral image and teaser-release theory should currently be treated as online speculation rather than verified news.

Still, the reaction to one unconfirmed picture demonstrates the extraordinary curiosity surrounding the movie. Fans are clearly waiting to see SRK in a ruthless and physically intimidating avatar.

Is Shah Rukh Khan Playing a Dark Antihero?

Another theory circulating among fans suggests that SRK’s character will be driven almost entirely by rage.

According to this rumoured storyline, the character makes decisions emotionally, attacks first and thinks later. He eventually lands in prison, where an unknown incident transforms him. Years later, he escapes or emerges from prison as the man the world comes to know as “King.”

None of these detailed plot points have been officially verified.

Nevertheless, such a storyline would allow Shah Rukh Khan to move away from the completely heroic personality seen in many mainstream action films. A morally complicated antihero—someone dangerous, unpredictable and emotionally damaged—could offer him an exciting new space to explore.

It could contain the mass appeal of Pathaan and Jawan while adding the darker psychological energy audiences associate with films such as Animal.

Can King Defeat Avengers: Doomsday?

Globally, Avengers: Doomsday will naturally have an enormous advantage. Marvel has spent years building its international universe, and the Avengers name remains recognised across almost every major film market.

However, India could tell a different story.

King will arrive during the Christmas holiday period with a fresh story, a major Indian superstar and enormous curiosity. If its trailer, music and advance bookings connect with audiences, the movie could rapidly take over a large share of Indian screens during Doomsday’s second week.

That would not necessarily mean Marvel had failed. Both movies could perform strongly because they serve somewhat different audiences. The real battle would be over premium screens, IMAX shows and audience attention during the holiday period.

Ultimately, King does not need to defeat Avengers: Doomsday at the worldwide box office to prove its strength. It needs to dominate India, deliver a strong overseas performance and give audiences an SRK character worth remembering.

Christmas 2026 may begin with superheroes attempting to save the universe.

But six days later, the King will arrive to claim his kingdom.
