The Fox and the Hound tells a beautiful tale of love and friendship. Todd, a young fox, is taken in by an old woman, Widow Tweed, after his mother is shot by hunters. He soon befriends Copper, the next doors neighbour hound dog. They become the best of friends but as they grow up Copper’s owner Amos Slade makes him slowly turn on Todd and Widow Tweedy takes Todd and abandons him in the forest. Amos takes Copper hunting and Copper chases Todd throughout the forest. They meet a bear by a waterfall and Copper fights with the bear saving Amos’s life, Todd can’t bear to watch them fight so intervenes and forces the bear into the waterfall and they both fall into the river. Amos finds Todd in the water at the bottom and finds this as his opportune moment to kill him, Copper stands between the gun and Todd, Amos lets him go, Copper and Todd stay friends but then never see each other again.

1. A few moments in this film are quite frightening and traumatizing in this film for its younger viewers which could leave them reeling in nightmares for years to come.

2. The beginning scene where Todd’s mother is looking around for a place for herself and Todd to hide from the hunters. A very eerie start scene, the music makes it dramatic.

3. The chase scene with Copper and Todd. They both try to kill one another.

4. The chase leads to the big finale, the fight with the bear. The most intense scene of the film. Though Todd saves Copper from the bear Todd still ends up worse for wear at the end when Amos points a gun at his head.

1. The Beginning

The beginning scene of the film shows Todds mother running throughout the forest trying to find a safe place for her and Todd. Dogs bark in the background which makes her rush along, she finds a place near Widow Tweedy’s farm and leaves Todd their near Big Mama, a friendly Owl who will help bring him up. His mother runs off in the distance and is finally shot by hunters. One traumatizing and distressing scene for all ages right there. One of Disney’s saddest scenes that will leave anyone at any age crying and feeling sorry for Baby Fox Todd.

2. Todd and Copper Fight

Todd and Copper grow up quickly and slowly turn on each other and learn that things are different now. Copper is a trained hunting dog and Todd is abandoned in the forest left to fend for himself. Big Mama helps him find a mate and Todd grows to like her. One day when Copper is on a hunting trail he comes across Todd and a fight breaks out. Amos tries to set the burrow on fire, but Todd and girlfriend Vixey are smart enough, they jump through the fire and escape without a scratch. This scene shows Todd and Coppers true nature, they are supposed to be enemies, not friends. A heart-breaking scene for all viewers. For younger viewers the image of both parties baring their teeth a little too scary.

3. The Bear

This then leads to the finale. The fight with the bear. Copper sniffs something out near a bush thinking it is Todd, a large bear emerges and knocks Amos off his feet. Copper jumps to his aid and fights with the bear. A large bear with angry red eyes set to kill. Todd sees Copper struggling and jumps onto the bear and fights himself. Us the audience know deep in his heart they are still friends, very heart-warming. Todd leads the bear off the edge of a cliff and they both fall into the river. Another traumatizing scene right there. Amos finds Todd and sees this as the opportune moment to kill him. Copper intervenes and Amos finally backs down. Copper looks back at Todd smiling and walks away, they never see each other again, but deep in their hearts they are still the best of friends. Disney did a wonderful job of telling a beautiful tale of friendship, though a few moments that would traumatize our children leaving them with nightmares.
