The scary moments of Walt Disney's moment of Cinderella

Cinderella. The fairy tale of a young maiden whose father passes away then goes to live with her stepmother and stepsisters. Cinderella lives a life of torment until one night she meets her fairy godmother who helps her get dressed to go to the ball to meet the man of her dreams, but there is a catch, she must get home before midnight. She accidentally drops her shoe whilst running away from the royal palace guards, luckily for the Prince he picks up the shoe and finds Cinderella and weds her immediately. In the original Grimm’s tale version the stepsisters had their eyes pecked out by birds and were forced to be Cinderella’s slave. Walt decided to leave this out and just have the stepmother and stepsisters exiled from the kingdom. A more lighter ending for a children’s movie.

Unlike other Disney movies Cinderella doesn’t have frightening scenes that will leave you with nightmares, but certainly does contain that scary element when it comes to the stepmother, Lady Tremaine, and the stepsisters, Anastasia and Drizella and their pat cat Lucifer. Then towards the end of the movie when Cinderella runs away from the royal palace guards when the clock strikes midnight, she is chased by black horses with red eyes, just a little creepy.

1. Lady Tremaine

2. The Stepsisters

3. Lucifer

4. The Horses

1. Lady Tremaine

Lady Tremaine certainly plays her part of the ‘evil stepmother’ quite well. She is horrible to Cinderella making her cook, clean and do everything for her daughters she doesn’t give Cinderella a moments rest. The scene where we meet Lady Tremaine there is no audio, it is quite dark and shoots to a close up of her face where she then snaps at Cinderella, then forces her to do housework. This woman has evil written all over her. Later on when they get the invitation to the ball Lady Tremaine allows Cinderella to go, but only if she cleans the whole house, again! Isn’t that place clean enough? Cinderella is scared at this point knowing her fate already, that she won’t get it done and she won’t be able to go. After Cinderella meets her fairy godmother and sneaks off, Lady Tremaine finds out she was at the ball and locks her in her room. She gives her the death glare as she walks off down the stairs with the key in her pocket, thinking she has successfully locked her there. Her shadows make the scene look way more scary than it should have been. Lady Tremaine is one woman you wouldn’t want to cross, especially with that stare.

2. The Stepsisters

The stepsisters, Anastasia and Drizella are certainly like their mother, evil. Just like Lady Tremaine they make Cinderella do everything for them, cook, clean, wash their clothes and so on. The moment when Cinderella comes downstairs with a dress on the birds have made her, the sisters violently rip the dress off Cinderella then leave happy and trot off to the ball, Cinderella runs off crying. Poor Cinderella. Like mother like daughter, they definitely make Cinderella feel neglected.

3. Lucifer

Lucifer, the pet cat. Lucifer by name Lucifer by nature. He chases mice around the home intending to kill and eat them. Fortunately these mice are clever and outsmart him in every scenario. The scene where Jaq and Gus, two mice, go to find some accessories for Cinderellas dress, they come across Lucifer in the sisters room. Though the scene is quite comical the music suggests something could happen, he bares his teeth a few times but Jaq and Gus get away. When Cinderella sings ‘Sweet Nightingale,’ she is in her own world, then snaps away from her trance to find that Lucifer has left muddy paw prints everywhere. Bruno, a dog Cinderella keeps, runs after Lucifer when she is locked away and goes for Lucifer teeth at the ready. The look on his face made it seem he wanted to do damage to Lucifer, some may say this is karma for the way he treated Cinderella. Lucifer is one cat you wouldn’t want to keep as a pet, fat, greedy and evil.

4. The Horses

When Cinderella runs away after dropping her shoe, she is chased by the royal palace guards on their horses. Their black horses with creepy red eyes. Making them seem the enemy. The picture says it all.
