Samuel L. Jackson Returns As Nick Fury On Disney+

Nick Fury has become one of Marvel’s best known characters over the years. The version of the character who appeared in the Ultimate Marvel universe was based on the appearance of Samuel L. Jackson, and it was very satisfying to see Jackson portray the character on the big screen. Fury has been a staple of the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since he appeared in the post-credit scene for Iron Man back in 2008. The inclusion of the character was effective in hinting at a larger world, which few people could have imagined becoming as big as it is on the screen in live-action form. He was instrumental in bringing the Avengers together, fighting for SHIELD when HYDRA revealed itself to be active in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and helping Captain Marvel in 1995, where we got to see a younger and more lighthearted Fury (as well as an underwhelming reason for his eye-patch).

Of course, the extent of Fury’s role has varied over the years. After The Winter Soldier, his screentime was very limited in much of his film appearances that followed. Even in Spider-Man: Far From Home, where Jackson gets a decent amount to do, we come to find out that we have been following a Skrull who agreed to take Fury’s place as he travels in space on a Skrull ship. This raised the question of where and when we might see the real Nick Fury again. Though we do not have all the answers, it seems that we may have an idea of where he could pop up next.

Variety reported on Friday that Samuel L. Jackson will be reprising his role as Nick Fury in a series that is being developed for Disney+. They say that the details of the show are being kept secret, so it sounds like this could be a show that has not been previously announced. Just looking at the upcoming slate, one might think that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier would be a natural fit. However, we must remember that Fury is in space. So one cannot help wondering whether this particular series may be set somewhere in space.

Variety also added that Kyle Bradstreet is attached to the series as a writer and executive producer. Notably, he has been an executive producer for the drama thriller series Mr. Robot and even written nine episodes of that series. Other credits include Borgia, Berlin Station, and Copper.

While this particular Disney+ series is a pretty big question mark, we still have a lot to look forward to on the streaming platform. WandaVision recently released a trailer and seems like it may debut in December. We also have The Falcon and the Winter Soldier coming out sometime after that. Hawkeye, Moon Knight, and Ms. Marvel have also been confirmed for a while, and it was recently revealed that Tatiana Maslany will star in a She-Hulk series. At a time when the MCU films have been delayed, to the point where 2020 is now the first year since 2009 to not have an MCU film, it is at least reassuring to know that these particular shows are in the works. While Marvel Studios has had to slow down at certain points to adapt to the circumstances of the pandemic, they have not put a complete stop on their projects.

Whenever and wherever Fury returns, it should be nice to see Jackson in that iconic role once again. Hopefully, the wait will not be too long, but we do have a lot to look forward to in the meantime as far as Marvel is concerned.
