In a pairing that seems much too good to be true, #Netflix has nabbed a project featuring Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o and Grammy winner Rihanna. Selma and A Wrinkle In Time helmer Ava DuVernay is set to direct, and the talented Issa Rae of Insecure fame will write the screenplay.
There were reportedly numerous bids for the project during a negotiation session at the Cannes Film Festival, a claim that isn't too hard to believe when you see just how much star power is attached. Netflix beat out any potential bidders with an apparent aggressive bid of their own, a move that the monstrous streaming service seems to be making more and more of nowadays.
It All Started At A Fashion Show

A photo recently emerged of the two stylish beauties sitting front row at a Miu Miu fashion show from 2014, which quickly went viral. A Twitter user gave a potential synopsis for an imaginary movie inspired by the photo — and with over 96,000 retweets, people clearly loved the idea of seeing these two on screen:

The four women attached to the project (Nyong'o, Rihanna, DuVarnay and Rae) all voiced their support on their verified Twitter accounts, and it is now a waiting game to see what these remarkably talented individuals come up with.
Rihanna has successfully taken the leap from singer to actress, recently starring as Marion Crane in the final season of Bates Motel.
Although an official synopsis is not given yet, Rae has reportedly begun working on the script. The studio is hoping to begin production toward the start of 2018 following DuVernay's completion of A Wrinkle In Time. Vanity Fair reports that, according to Rae, "the original Twitter users who imagined the concept for this film will be credited and included in some form."
