Rulla's tagline is "I have a blessed life and I'm a loyal wife." Three episodes in, and that tagline is already doing the most heavy lifting on this show, and not in the way she intended.

Episode 3 of The Real Housewives of Rhode Island is called "Saturday Night Fever Dream," and honestly, that title does a lot of work. Rulla's holding Lebanese lunches to process her husband's very public affair, Alicia is confessing her financial vulnerabilities to Liz while surrounded by an army of modern Bratz dolls, and Liz throws a Studio 54 party that ends with Brian sweating through his costume and Kelsey's entire roster of men becoming a cast member. It's only episode three. This show is not slowing down.

Rulla's Lebanese Lunch and Brian's Cheating Scandal

Rulla kicks things off, hosting a Lebanese lunch with her close friends, which is essentially a televised summit on her husband Brian's affair disguised as mezze and advice-seeking. The receipts are already public: a photo of the mistress sitting on Brian's lap on social media, which Jo-Ellen saw, shared, and Brian then tried to weaponize by calling Jo-Ellen's workplace to get her fired from the med spa industry.

The producers are doing their thing in the confessionals. Just as Rulla is going on about how she doesn't want to be divorced, they flash that she's actually already been divorced before, a fact she very much does not want discussed. She said her family wouldn't be happy about it, which made me instantly want to know everything about that previous marriage.

So here's where the tagline starts cracking. Rulla isn't playing the loyal wife to a loyal husband. She's playing the loyal wife to a man who posted publicly with his mistress and then tried to have her cast member fired when it got out. By the time she says "we all have things we do" about an affair that's still happening, you realize this is not going to be a quick storyline.

Alicia's Fear of Marriage and Her Doll Army

This is the episode where I fully became an Alicia stan. She's showing Liz her house and her doll collection, a sprawling army of Rainbow High dolls she introduces as her "friends," completely deadpan.

But underneath the bit, her conversation with Liz cuts straight to it: she's been with her partner Bill for nearly a decade, her name isn't on the house, she has no real legal claim to anything, and she's terrified of marriage because of how her parents' divorce destroyed her family. She's not just afraid of marriage in the abstract. She watched her dad walk out when she was young, and she's been building walls around herself ever since.

RI-based family law people on online forums are already pointing out that, because both Alicia and Bill have publicly said they are not married, she probably doesn't even have a common-law marriage claim to fall back on. Rhode Island courts specifically look at whether the couple's conduct "lead[s] to a belief in the community that they were married" (DeMelo v. Zompa, 844 A.2d 174). If one party was publicly telling people they're not married, that's direct evidence working against the community-belief requirement. She's been here nine years, raised a child with him, and could technically walk away with nothing. I'm watching this woman on a reality show building her first independent income stream in real time, and I'm genuinely rooting for her.

Ashley and Jared's Coffee Shop Money Problems

Ashley and Jared's date night serves as the episode's breather, but it's somehow more stressful than the cheating scandal. Their coffee shop, Audrey's, runs on Ashley's money and Jared's emotions, and the broken ice machine is now this season's most unexpectedly compelling subplot.

Both of them admit on camera that the place can't survive without Ashley's financial contributions, and yet Jared is the one there 40+ hours a week, mainly working the espresso machine instead of running the actual business. Ashley bankrolls the dream, handles most of the childcare, and Jared bolts from Liz's party early to go check on the coffee shop at midnight.

The real question isn't whether the ice machine gets fixed. It's whether Jared's whole project is an ego buffer against Ashley being the breadwinner, and whether either of them is willing to say that on camera. To be fair, since the premiere aired, Audrey's has reportedly gotten a real business bump from the show, so the storyline is at least working in their favor even if the marriage optics are questionable.

Liz's Studio 54 Party and the Dino Bombshell

Liz throws a Studio 54-themed party that goes sideways in the most entertaining way possible. The costume situation alone is a lot: Rosie shows up in a last-minute pink outfit that she drags herself for before anyone else can, Liz's stepdaughter arrives in a pink two-piece, and Kelsey's other boyfriend, Bill, or is it Will, strolls in wearing a pink tartan suit.

The Dino situation, which has been simmering since episode one, finally blows up here. Kelsey had been deliberately vague about how she knows Dino, the man Liz has already been linked to. Then Liz, seemingly drunk and crashing out about wanting to go to the sea wall, drops that Kelsey has "her own thing" with Dino. Kelsey has been pushing the Liz-Dino rumors this whole time, albeit subtly, and now it looks like she might have been throwing Liz under the bus to deflect heat from herself. Both of them might have had a thing with this man. Dino isn't even on screen yet, and he's already the most talked-about person in the cast.

Jo-Ellen Confronts Brian at Liz's Party

This is what the whole episode has been building toward. Brian shows up to Liz's party already visibly uncomfortable, and when Jo-Ellen confronts him directly, swearing on her kids that he's having an affair, he says absolutely nothing in his defense.

His silence is more damning than any denial could be. And remember: this is the man who, when he got caught cheating via a publicly available social media photo, responded by trying to call Jo-Ellen's employer to get her blackballed from the med spa industry. His defense strategy is to bully anyone who points out the evidence. Jo-Ellen's husband addresses Brian directly and calmly, no theatrics, just a firm "don't mess with my wife's livelihood," and it lands harder than any table flip could.

Rulla, meanwhile, is in the car afterward, saying she wishes Brian had "shut Jo-Ellen down." Not that she wishes he hadn't cheated. That she wishes he'd shut down the person who told her. It's heartbreaking and genuinely hard to watch, especially knowing what we know off-screen about restraining orders and domestic violence accusations. She came on this show with a tagline about being a loyal wife, and she's committed to that version of her life even when the cameras are catching every crack in it.

Rhode Island Is Must-Watch TV Right Now

Three episodes in, and every single cast member has a real storyline, not a manufactured one, but an actual messy life that the cameras are documenting. Rulla's marriage has the weight of something genuinely dangerous underneath it. Alicia is quietly engineering her own financial independence while dressing dolls on national TV. Ashley and Jared are having a real discussion about money and ego wrapped in a coffee shop subplot. Liz is holding three storylines together simultaneously and blacking out at her own party.

Rhode Island is small, everyone knows everyone, and this cast was already waist-deep in each other's business before a single camera rolled. That's the foundation this show is built on, and so far, it's holding.
