I saw right around 50 films last year, I wanted to make sure when Oscar time came I had the most thorough picture of what could be nominated for awards as well as having a well informed opinion on what I think should win. I saw most of the Oscar nominees last year and it really made it more enjoyable to watch the award show. So here we go a full ranking of all the films I have seen this year.

Godzilla Minus One 10/10

Seriously the best movie of the year, not even up for debate.

The Color Purple 10/10

A heartfelt and truly incredible piece of media with an insanely talented cast.

Across the Spider-Verse 10/10

A complete film on its own and an incredible set up to the third movie.

The Iron Claw 10/10

So wildly upsetting that this is a true story but an amazing performance from Zac Efron.

Nimona 10/10

One of the best films, possibly of all time.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 10/10

The perfect TMNT adaptation and an amazing movie for young teenagers.

Barbie 10/10

The most financially successful movie of the year and for good reason. Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig are an incredible team and Gerwig adds to her resume of stories about being a woman.

Theater Camp 10/10

By theatre kids, for theatre kids. It was cringy in all the best ways.

Red, White, and Royal Blue 10/10

My favorite romantic comedy of the year. The chemistry between the leads was unmatched.

Saltburn 10/10

Great eat the rich story, visually stunning, nothing that grotesque or shocking unless you are a little wimp.

Anyone But You 10/10

Another great romantic comedy of 2023, joins the list of incredible Shakespeare adaptations.

Love at First Sight 10/10

2023 was the year of rom coms. This film was just so artfully crafted and beautifully told.

Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes 9.5/10

Wow. Rachel Zegler is incredible and no one is better than Suzanne Collins at social commentary.

Oppenheimer 9.5/10

A feat of filmmaking. The use of black and white vs color alone deserves its own thesis.

Poor Things 9.5/10

The most visually stunning movie of the year. Emma Stone was phenomenal.

The Little Mermaid 9.5/10

Halle is such a princess, she is beautiful and talented and she is the reason this movie is incredible.

Polite Society 9/10

Fun, different, brilliant, incredible.

Chevalier 9/10

I’ve rewatched it 3 times since seeing it in theaters. It's amazing.

80 For Brady 9/10

Funny and exactly what it should’ve been.

Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret 9/10

Girls need more coming of age stories and this one is so perfect.

Killers of the Flower Moon 9/10

Good film. Mixed feelings about the representation and it was in fact too long.

Priscilla 9/10

A meaningful but uncomfortable watch.

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 9/10

I cried 90% of the time, James Gunn managed to create the perfect superhero trilogy.

Asteroid City 9/10

Wes Anderson continues to be incredible.

Super Mario Bros Movie 9/10

It was good, I thought it was cute for its target audience. It was also financially successful.

No Hard Feelings 9/10

Another wonderful rom com, Jennifer Lawrence is a great romantic lead.

The Marvels 8.5/10

Coming out during the industry’s biggest strike was its biggest flaw. The movie was awesome.

Dream Scenario 8.5/10

The only time I’ve ever tolerated (and maybe even liked) Nicholas Cage.

The Boy and the Heron 8.5/10

Love Miyazaki and this movie is really a love letter to his legacy.

Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken 8/10

Another great coming of age story for young girls that came out in 2023.

Dungeons and Dragons 8/10

I don’t think anyone expected this movie to be as good as it was. Truly felt like D&D.

Napoleon 8/10

The filmmaking was great and the writing was adequate.

Cocaine Bear 8/10

Fun, hilarious and definitely worth the watch.

Maestro 8/10

Visually was great, thematically nonexistent, as a whole it was long.

Indiana Jones: Dial of Destiny 8/10

Not as bad as everyone said it was, the CGI was a little weird but it felt like a good goodbye to the character.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter 8/10

Loved the concept, it was paced a little weird but it was good.

Fool’s Paradise 7/10

Unexpectedly good and very unique.

A Haunting in Venice 7/10

Vibes were great, story wasn’t.

Maybe I Do 6/10

Super great casting, the story was actually very well done, it was the execution that missed a little bit.

Knock at the Cabin 6/10

Dave Bautista was amazing, carried the film on his back.

Wonka 6/10

Chalamet was a great Wonka, he can not sing.

Antman and Wasp: Quantumania 6/10

This was a CGI fest and it wasn’t great.

Transformers: Rise of the Beast 5/10

This was a movie…it wasn’t a comedy yet it was hilarious.

65 5/10

Why?

Fast X 5/10

May December 5/10

Great concept, terrible execution.

Renfield 5/10

Had so much wasted potential.

Wish 3/10

The worst music to ever come out of Disney.

Love Again 3/10

In the year of romantic comedies this was truly terrible.

The Meg 2 3/10

This doesn’t need to exist.

Infinity Pool 0.5/10

Don’t waste your time.
