Ranking Disney's Live Actions

Worst to Best

Disney is insistent on making literally all of their movies live actions, and so far that has not worked out real well. Very few of these adaptations have actually been good but here we are going to rank all of the worst to best.

Mulan

At the very bottom of the list here we have Mulan. Omitting the music and the general audiences favorite supporting characters was the least of this movie's worries. Disney claimed that the changes were put in place in order to be more faithful to the original legend of Mulan, yet their production team was all white and they decided to film at concentration camps. The people of China actively boycotted this film and there is nothing else that needs to be said.

Maleficent

Yeah, yeah I know. But besides the fact that this was entirely unnecessary it actually shits on the original movie which defeats the whole purpose of an adaptation. It was garbage and I hated it.

Cruella

In exactly the same unnecessary vein as Maleficent, Cruella gave an incredibly stupid backstory to what used to be a really great villain. The story was all over the place but she was chased by Dalmatians so now she wants to turn them into clothes has got to be the dumbest origin story of all time.

Lady and the Tramp

Look…some things don’t need to be live actions. The heavily animal based animated films are those movies. Lady and the Tramp was kind of a mid tier animated movie anyway and it lost about 10 points by making it live action.

The Lion King

The sound mixing was terrible, the ensemble didn’t even exist in I Just Can’t Wait to be King…when it's their song. They should have just cut Be Prepared entirely, speak singing it was a terrible decision. And of course the lack of any emotion in the animals was shit. If we wanted to watch a national geographic documentary then we would have done so.

Peter Pan

Had the most magical, beautiful source material and turned it into the most boring, bland story possible. A total waste of time.

Pinocchio

I didn’t hate it but the fact that it came out around the same time as Guillermo Del Toro's version was a bad decision on Disney’s part. The audience can’t help but compare and nothing that comes out of disney will ever compare to Del Toro.

Beauty and the Beast

Emma Watson is a beautiful Belle but for god sakes they should have had someone sing for her. I’m so tired of people casting MUSICALS with no regard for the MUSIC. It’s fucking ridiculous.

The Jungle Book

True to its original story, just as stunning visually and the acting was truly phenomenal. 8/10 movie which is the highest ranked so far as an overall, quality film.

Dumbo

It was beautiful, it was emotional, and I have no notes. It was an incredible movie.

Aladdin

Amazing. The vocals, the costumes, the choreography, everything was stunning. I personally had reservations about Will Smith as the genie but I think they did a great job of making the songs work for him. He had huge shoes to fill and he did a great job.

Christopher Robin

This was one of the most emotional watches for me. It was nostalgic and heart wrenching and I truly loved watching this movie. It was a different perspective on a very beloved story and it was wonderful.

The Little Mermaid

I know I’m gonna get heat for this not being number one but for as perfect as Halle was, Melissa Mcarthy was not. She was a horrible casting choice (again let's please cast people that can sing in musicals), as was Awkwafina. Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard. And the original songs were subpar, and the vocal coach that they had on set should be fired.

Cinderella

Flawless with no notes, this movie is stunning and I don’t understand how Disney fell so far after this masterpiece.

I have not been a fan of almost any of the love actions; Aladdin however is FLAWLESS to me.

  • Can't believe Cruella is inclined more towards worse on your scale. I thought it was really good. I didn't enjoy Aladdin to be honest.
