Radio Free Roscoe is a comedy-drama series about four teens that run their own radio station. It aired on The N in America and on the Family Channel in Canada. The show is set in Toronto, Ontario in one of their suburbs. The characters: Lily Randall, Robbie McGrath, Ray Brennan, and Travis Strong attend the Henry Roscoe High School, were they also have a radio station. At the school's radio station, the students are not given ample freedom as to what to discuss on the air. Ray, Lily, and the others want to voice their opinions about important subjects without being censored or controlled. This leads them to start their own radio station. They find an abandoned warehouse where they set their radio station in. Lily, Ray, and Robbie, act as the DJs for Radio Free. While Travis works as the show's producer. In order to protect themselves from being discovered by the school, all four friends use nicknames to protect their identities. Robbie's is “Question Mark, Ray's is “Pronto, Travis's is “Smog”, and Lily's radio name is “Shady Lane”. As I have stated, they use their station as a way to voice their views and opinions about problems and controversies at the high school. They also play various music throughout the tenure.

Now let's get to know the characters. Robbie McGrath has a laid-back personality and is overall a nice guy. He enjoys riding bikes and skateboarding. He will do anything for his friends and the station. Lily Randall is a blonde who is outgoing and firm. She is one of the more vocal ones in the radio station. Also, Lily is an aspiring musician who enjoys playing guitar, singing, and songwriting. She often performs her music on Radio Free, undercover of course. She also plays at the local hangout 'Mickey's (More on that later). Overall, she's loyal to the group and gets along with them well. Travis Strong is the radio show's producer and backbone of the group. Travis meets the others in the first episode. Strong is a bit on the quiet side and loves to write. He is often the voice of reason in conflict. Travis is active in learning history and as well as philosophy. Ray Brennan is the comedic guy of the group. He's a class clown and overall wise-guy. Ray provides the show with his witty personality, dry jokes, and mishaps. Sometimes his funny behavior gets him into trouble, but he always gets out of it. He's also a bit of a nerd, as he references comic books often.

Some other essential characters are Kim Carlisle, Ted, Ed, and school principal Daniel Waller. Kim is the DJ for the school's radio station, as well as Radio Free's rival. Carlisle is ill-tempered, strict, and a bit grouchy. She is often at odds with the others, insulting and fighting with them. Strangely, Robbie and Kim started to have feelings for one another. Principal Waller is closely connected with the school radio station. He is socially awkward and sometimes inept. He tries on numerous occasions to discover who's behind Radio Free to shut them down, but never succeeds. Ted and Ed are mostly geeks and are fans of Radio Free. They are also clumsy and inept.

Ray, Lily, and the others often hang out at Mickey's, the local coffee shop and music store. When their not doing Radio Free they meet up here, performing music, meeting people, and discussing problems. Besides their radio show, much of the series revolves around them going through high school. Things like dating, peer pressure, elections, and homework.

These are some things I like about Radio Free Roscoe. I like the wholesome appeal of the show. Their is no profanity, drug use, violence, crude jokes, or sexual situations present in the show. That means the whole family can sit down and view this. I also enjoy the uniqueness of the characters, they're all different and have their own gifts and personalities. However some aspects of the show that I don't like are: no story arcs, some of the episodes are bland, and it can be boring to see the same story lines over again. With that said, Radio Free Roscoe is a show that I recommend if you're looking for something clean and wholesome for a change.
