Spoiler Warning: This article contains major spoilers for Purushaha (2026), including Govind’s past with Rosie, Kamala’s heart secret, and the complete ending.

Purushaha begins like a lighthearted comedy about three married childhood friends, but underneath the jokes is a surprisingly emotional story about trust, past relationships, misunderstandings, and forgiveness.

Govind, Satti, and Srinu have been close since childhood. Even after marriage, their friendship remains strong, but their personal lives are falling apart. All three eventually find themselves facing divorce—and the reasons behind their broken marriages slowly emerge through a series of funny and emotional flashbacks.

But Govind and Kamala’s story hides the biggest secret of all.

Why Does Kamala Want to Divorce Govind?

Govind actually works to help other couples save their marriages, yet he struggles to protect his own.

Kamala deeply loves Govind, but she becomes increasingly suspicious of him. His late-night phone calls, unusual behavior, and an old tattoo make her believe that another woman may still be part of his life.

Things become even worse when the couple attends the wedding of Govind’s childhood friend Kishore.

Kishore has kept a book containing sketches and memories of the friends’ old adventures and romantic experiences. Unfortunately, the wives discover it.

What initially looks like harmless history quickly becomes a marital disaster.

Kamala discovers that Govind once loved a girl named Rosie, while secrets involving Satti and Srinu’s past also come out. Convinced that their husbands have hidden important truths from them, the wives decide they have had enough.

Divorce suddenly becomes very real.

Who Was Rosie in Govind’s Past?

Rosie was not simply an old girlfriend Govind casually forgot about.

She was his first true love.

When Govind was younger, Rosie would visit his village from France. Govind helped her understand the local environment, and as they spent more time together, friendship gradually turned into love.

However, Rosie’s father strongly opposed their relationship and eventually decided to take her away.

Then tragedy struck.

Rosie and her parents were involved in a serious accident. Her parents died, while Rosie was left in critical condition.

Doctors realized Rosie could not be saved, but her heart could potentially save another young woman.

Her grandmother agreed to the organ donation.

For Govind, Rosie’s death completely changed his life. He struggled to accept losing the woman he loved and emotionally shut himself away from the possibility of another relationship.

That explains why he repeatedly rejected Kamala when she originally confessed her love to him.

Why Did Govind Finally Marry Kamala?

This is where Purushaha delivers its biggest emotional twist.

Years after Rosie’s death, Kamala falls deeply in love with Govind. She eventually proposes, but Govind rejects her because he still cannot move beyond Rosie.

Later, Kamala’s parents meet Govind and reveal something extraordinary.

Kamala is the woman who received Rosie’s heart.

The heart beating inside Kamala once belonged to Govind’s first love.

Suddenly, Govind understands the connection between his past and present.

He eventually accepts Kamala and marries her, but he never tells her the complete truth. He fears that discovering the truth about Rosie and the heart transplant could emotionally hurt Kamala.

Unfortunately, keeping the secret creates exactly the misunderstanding he wanted to avoid.

Did Govind Cheat on Kamala?

No.

The major misunderstanding at the center of the movie is that Kamala believes Govind is emotionally connected to another woman.

Rosie, however, died long before Govind married Kamala.

Govind never reveals the full story because Rosie’s death was extremely painful for him, and because Kamala unknowingly carries Rosie’s donated heart.

Once this truth is understood, Govind’s behavior takes on an entirely different meaning.

His secret was not an affair—it was unresolved grief.

What Happens to Satti and Srinu’s Marriages?

While Govind’s story provides the emotional center of the movie, Satti and Srinu also face serious marital problems.

Their wives become furious after learning about their husbands’ past behavior through Kishore’s memories.

Eventually, however, both men accept that they made mistakes and want another opportunity to repair their relationships.

Govind secretly speaks with their wives and asks them to reconsider. He explains that his friends genuinely want to save their marriages and are willing to change.

When everyone returns to court, both wives decide against divorce.

Satti and Srinu are relieved.

But Govind and Kamala’s situation is still unresolved.

Purushaha Ending Explained: Why Does Govind Agree to Divorce Kamala?

Kamala arrives at court hoping Govind will reject the divorce.

In her mind, if Govind truly loves her, he will fight for their marriage.

Instead, when the judge asks Govind whether he still agrees to the divorce, Govind says yes.

Kamala is devastated and collapses.

But Govind’s answer does not mean he has stopped loving her.

Quite the opposite.

Govind believes Kamala should have the freedom to choose her own happiness. If she genuinely wants to leave him, he is prepared to accept the pain rather than force her to remain in the marriage.

After Kamala is taken to the hospital, the complete truth about Rosie finally comes out.

Everyone realizes that Govind was never cheating on Kamala.

Rosie was his first love, Rosie died after the accident, and Rosie’s donated heart is now beating inside Kamala.

When Kamala finally learns everything, she understands Govind’s actions differently.

She realizes how deeply he loves her and how badly suspicion and incomplete information damaged their relationship.

Govind and Kamala reconcile, bringing their divorce story to an emotional end.

What Does the Ending of Purushaha Mean?

The ending emphasizes how dangerous assumptions can become inside a relationship.

Kamala sees pieces of Govind’s past without knowing the complete story and reaches the worst possible conclusion. Govind, meanwhile, believes hiding painful information will protect her.

Both choices create unnecessary suffering.

The movie ultimately argues that trust and honest communication are more important than suspicion, gossip, or assumptions.

Satti and Srinu receive second chances, while Govind and Kamala discover that the truth they feared discussing was actually the thing capable of saving their marriage.
