Pee Nak 5 takes the Thai horror-comedy franchise into a much darker and more emotional direction. The fifth movie continues directly from the events surrounding Not and his friends, but this time the supernatural threat is deeply connected to Not’s own family.

At the centre of the story is Nin, Not’s older brother, whose violent past and painful childhood eventually transform him into the vengeful spirit hunting Not and everyone he loves.

But Nin is not the only danger.

An ancient creature known as Makara has also been released, giving Nin’s spirit far greater supernatural power. By the time the truth is revealed, Not must choose between fighting his brother and trying to save the part of Nin that still remembers their bond.

How Pee Nak 5 Begins

The movie opens with Nin desperately running through a forest while carrying a gun.

He is injured and appears to be escaping from several enemies. Three men eventually catch up with him. Nin manages to shoot them, but one of the attackers fires at his face.

Nin dies at the location.

However, something much more important happens immediately afterward.

Nin’s blood falls onto a mysterious cursed statue.

That seemingly small moment becomes the foundation of almost everything that happens later.

The story then returns to Not and his friends shortly after the events connected to the previous movie. During Not’s birthday celebration, the weather suddenly changes and a terrifying spirit appears.

It is Nin.

The spirit makes his intentions frighteningly clear. He wants to hurt the people Not cares about.

Who Is Nin in Pee Nak 5?

Not finally reveals the truth about his brother.

Before his death, Nin was involved in a dangerous criminal lifestyle and had many enemies. Despite that, Not still loved his brother and was happy whenever Nin came to visit him at the temple.

During one visit, Nin decided that he also wanted to be ordained.

At first, it appeared that he wanted to change his life.

But Not soon discovered something disturbing.

A man whose son had come to the temple for ordination was murdered. At the murder scene, Not noticed evidence connected directly to Nin.

When Not confronted him, Nin admitted the truth.

He had arranged the man's death.

Nin could not tolerate seeing a loving relationship between a father and son because his own relationship with his father had been filled with pain and anger.

Not threatened to expose him.

Nin responded violently, warning Not that revealing the truth would destroy his chance of being ordained.

Nin insisted that becoming a monk could help him become a better person and leave his criminal life behind.

Not reluctantly remained silent.

But during the ordination festival, Nin noticed police officers searching for him. Instead of surrendering, he opened fire and escaped toward the forest.

That escape eventually led to the death shown at the beginning of the movie.

Why Is Nin’s Ghost So Powerful?

Not and his friends initially believe that finding Nin’s body and performing the correct religious funeral rites might allow his spirit to rest.

A monk warns them against travelling to the place where Nin died because the area is extremely dangerous.

They go anyway.

While searching the area, Not reaches the statue stained by Nin’s blood. After touching it, he experiences a horrifying vision connected to Nin’s death.

Soon afterward, darkness suddenly covers the area even though it is daytime.

Nin appears again.

His ability to manipulate the environment makes it obvious that this is no ordinary ghost.

Then the group encounters a gigantic monster.

The explanation they later receive reveals one of the movie’s biggest supernatural twists.

What Is Makara?

According to the legend explained in the movie, the land was once connected to a great battle between a Naga and a monstrous creature called Makara.

The Naga represented protection and was associated with guarding Lord Buddha and the Dharma.

Makara became jealous and challenged the Naga.

Their battle caused destruction around them, so the Naga eventually proposed another challenge. Makara would win if it could completely swallow the Naga.

Makara almost succeeded.

But before it could swallow the Naga’s head, the Naga revealed its enormous seven-headed form.

Makara could not complete the challenge and was defeated.

Even after its death, however, Makara’s evil spirit remained dangerous.

The Naga therefore used its own blood to seal Makara away.

A shrine containing statues connected to this ancient story was eventually created.

And this is where Nin’s death becomes important.

How Nin Accidentally Releases Makara

Nin dies near one of the cursed statues.

His blood falls directly onto it.

Because Nin had committed terrible acts during his life, his blood weakens the supernatural seal that had imprisoned Makara.

Makara is released.

Even worse, Makara begins strengthening Nin’s already angry spirit.

That explains why Nin can perform supernatural acts far beyond what the group expects, including creating darkness during the day and launching increasingly powerful attacks.

Nin’s anger provides the perfect weapon for Makara.

Piyari’s Death Changes Everything

Balloon, First and the others eventually reunite with Pong and her younger sister Piyari.

Their situation becomes even more dangerous after they seek help from a shaman who specialises in trapping spirits.

The shaman initially succeeds in weakening Nin through dark magic.

But Not cannot bear seeing his brother being tortured.

He interferes.

This gives Makara an opportunity to possess the shaman.

During the chaos, Piyari is forced to kill the possessed shaman to protect the group.

Makara escapes the body and continues attacking them.

The situation becomes even more tragic when Nin catches Piyari.

Knowing that Piyari has developed strong feelings for Not, Nin brutally kills her in front of the others.

Piyari’s death is one of the darkest moments in the entire movie.

It also changes Not emotionally.

He begins blaming himself because Nin is attacking these people specifically because they are important to him.

Why Does Not Try to Sacrifice Himself?

After Piyari’s funeral, Not becomes overwhelmed by guilt.

He eventually goes to the shrine alone and tries to take his own life, believing that his friends will finally be safe if he is gone.

His friends stop him.

They remind Not that they are his family too and that he does not have to carry the entire burden alone.

It becomes an important emotional turning point.

Instead of facing Nin by himself, Not finally accepts that everyone will have to fight together.

How Can Makara Be Defeated?

Balloon, First and Pong search the dead shaman’s home for information.

With what appears to be supernatural guidance connected to Piyari, they discover hidden instructions explaining how Makara can be imprisoned again.

Makara will return to the statue connected to its imprisonment.

Destroying that statue can seal the creature again.

But there are two conditions.

They need Naga blood, because it was Naga blood that originally created the seal.

They must also perform the ritual during the correct night.

Fortunately, the group already has someone connected to the Naga.

To has previously been revealed to have a connection to a Naga from a past life.

His blood can therefore affect the statue.

The group heads into the forest to complete the ritual.

The Final Battle Explained

To cuts his hand and allows his blood to fall onto the statue.

The structure begins reacting immediately.

But Nin and Makara appear before they can finish.

Makara attacks the group.

Then another supernatural force enters the battle.

A powerful light emerges from Not’s protective amulet and manifests as the Naga.

The Naga fights Makara and manages to defeat the monster, forcing its supernatural presence back toward the statue.

Now the group has a chance to seal it permanently.

But To has already lost too much blood.

That leaves Not and the others fighting Nin while searching for another way to complete the ritual.

They attack Nin one after another, attempting to distract him.

A blade covered with Naga blood is able to hurt Nin’s spirit, confirming that the sacred blood can damage supernatural beings connected to Makara.

Not then makes a crucial decision.

He cuts his own hand.

Not chooses to believe that courage, sacrifice and the willingness to protect others can make him spiritually worthy of following the Naga’s path.

He places his blood on the statue.

The statue begins collapsing.

Because Makara is the source of much of Nin’s supernatural power, Nin desperately tries to stop his brother.

But he is too late.

The statue is destroyed and Makara loses its hold over the situation.

Nin’s Tragic Past Explained

After Makara is defeated, the movie finally reveals why Nin became such an angry and violent person.

His childhood was filled with abuse.

Their father regularly mistreated him and punished him brutally. In one particularly disturbing memory, his father poured extremely hot water over his back.

Nin was also discouraged from following the religious path he wanted.

Later, betrayal in his romantic life added even more anger to his personality.

Years of rejection, violence and loneliness convinced Nin that nobody truly cared about him.

This is why seeing affectionate relationships between parents and children made him furious.

It also explains his resentment toward Not.

From Nin’s perspective, Not had found peace at the temple while leaving him alone with a life filled with suffering.

Nin eventually convinced himself that even his own brother hated him.

But Not tells him that this was never true.

Why Did Not Protect Nin?

Another major truth is revealed when a young novice admits that he was the person who informed the police about Nin’s crime.

Not had never betrayed his brother.

When Nin hears this, he turns against the novice.

Balloon tries to stop Nin using the blade covered in Naga blood, but Not steps between them.

The blade accidentally strikes Not instead.

Nin is shocked.

After everything he has done, Not is still willing to protect him.

Not finally explains why.

He loves Nin because Nin is his brother.

If Not truly hated him, he could have exposed him immediately after discovering the murder.

Nin finally finds peace.

Makara has also been defeated and sealed away.

For a brief moment, it appears that the nightmare is over.

But Pee Nak 5 has one more twist waiting.

What Happens to Not After Nin Is Gone?

Following the battle, Pong prepares to return to her village.

Not completes his ordination and becomes a monk again.

The group eventually returns to the temple and prays before Lord Buddha.

Not then removes the protective amulet that has helped protect the characters throughout the series.

The amulet has been damaged during the battle.

Not places it before Lord Buddha, symbolically allowing the object that protected them for so long to finally rest.

It feels like the perfect ending to the story.

Then Yam changes everything.

Pee Nak 5 Final Scene Explained

Yam picks up the broken amulet and reconnects it with another piece that he had found after the battle.

The moment the pieces are joined, the Naga appears again.

Instead of simply protecting the group, however, the supernatural situation becomes threatening.

Everyone panics and looks toward Not for help.

This strongly suggests that destroying Makara did not completely restore the supernatural balance.

The movie deliberately avoids fully explaining what Yam saw or what exactly has been released.

Pee Nak 5 Post-Credit Scene Explained

After returning to her village, Pong is shown sitting before Lord Buddha and reading or reciting religious material.

Suddenly, she hears the voice of another terrifying vengeful spirit.

The spirit accuses her of committing a forbidden act involving someone connected to an ordination.

It promises that Pong will face an unimaginably severe punishment.

Pong immediately becomes terrified.

The scene establishes another supernatural conflict instead of giving the franchise a completely peaceful ending.

It also suggests that the events involving Nin and Makara may have triggered consequences that the characters still do not understand.

Does Pee Nak 5 Set Up Pee Nak 6?

Yes, the ending clearly leaves the story open for another chapter.

Three major mysteries remain.

The first is the strange behaviour surrounding the repaired amulet and the reappearance of the Naga.

The second is whatever Yam may have discovered after the destruction around Makara’s statue.

The third and biggest mystery is the vengeful spirit threatening Pong in the final scene.

The Meaning of Pee Nak 5’s Ending

Behind all the ghosts, curses and monsters, Pee Nak 5 is ultimately built around the relationship between two brothers.

Nin believes that nobody has ever truly loved him.

His abusive childhood, his failed relationships and his criminal life gradually turn that loneliness into hatred.

Makara does not create Nin’s anger.

It simply makes that anger more powerful.

Not defeats his brother not by destroying him, but by proving that Nin’s belief was wrong.

Someone did love him.

At the same time, the movie refuses to suggest that love removes responsibility.

Not can forgive Nin, but he cannot erase his brother’s karma.

Nin can only find peace after recognising his actions and accepting that he must face their consequences.

That emotional resolution gives Pee Nak 5 a surprisingly meaningful ending beneath its supernatural horror.

Makara may be defeated and Nin may finally be free, but the final scenes make one thing very clear:

the curse surrounding Not and his friends is far from over.
