Pedro Pascal Comes Out In Support Of His Trans Sister

Pedro Pascal, star of The Mandalorian, shared with his fans on Instagram a photo of his sister Lux in support of her publicly coming out as a transgender woman. The photo was of the cover of Ya, a Spanish language magazine where Lux is featured as the cover story in an article titled “La Transición de Lux Pascal: Su Camino Para Convertise En Una Actriz Sin Renegar De Su Pasado” ("The Transition of Lux Pascal: Her Path to Becoming an Actress Without Denying Her Past").

In Pascal’s post, he said, “Mi hermana, mi corazón, nuestra Lux,” or, “My sister, my heart, our Lux.”

According to the interview with Ya, Lux started this portion of her journey in July when she began to receive hormone treatment. She stated that she had previously come out to her family as nonbinary. She told Ya:

“My transition has been something that’s very natural for everyone in my family. It’s almost something they expected to happen.”

Lux also revealed that Pedro Pascal “has been an important part of this. He’s also an artist and has served as a guide for me. He was one of the first people to gift me the tools that started shaping my identity.”

She recalls coming out as a transgender woman to Pascal over FaceTime, saying he “asked me how I felt, because I remember he was a little worried.” She told him she was happy, and Pascal said, “Perfect, this is incredible.” Lux believes that activism and representation are critical for the trans community.:

“Moving through the world as a woman is much more simple for me, but I still advocate for nonbinary identities to have a space in society."

"We need trans activists who are good, smart, informed and who can be strong voices against transphobia, homophobia and racism.”

Lux is currently a student at the Juilliard School in New York City, studying acting. She has already landed several roles, including playing Benjamín in La Jauría (The Pack), and even had a role in two episodes of Netflix’s Narcos with her brother. If she continues to act, it gives her a great opportunity to live up to her name ("Lux" means "Light"), and be an inspiration to others who are either afraid to come out as transgender or dealing with the transphobia that often, unfortunately, comes with it.

This is not the first time Pascal has shown support for his sister or the transgender community. Over the summer of 2020, Twitter users began to add their preferred pronouns (he/him, she/her, they/them) as a way to try and normalize these statements. Pascal added (and still has) the he/him pronoun to his profile, and had even tweeted in March “TRANS RIGHTS! #ForeverandAlways.”

His Mandalorian co-star, Gina Carano, did not understand the purpose, so added “beep/bop/boop” to her profile, seemingly minimizing the effort. Pascal stepped in and spoke to her, attempting to explain the purpose, with Carano responding to a Twitter follower, “Yes, Pedro & I spoke & he helped me understand why people were putting them in their bios. I didn’t know before but I do now. I won’t be putting them in my bio but good for all you who choose to. I stand against bullying, especially the most vulnerable & freedom to choose.” She removed the beep/bop/boop from her profile after the discussion.

Pascal has shown unconditional love and support for his sister, as well as the transgender community. Hopefully Lux will continue to act and use her platform to both spread awareness and inspire others on a similar path.
