That's right, the Movie Theaters are open and there's actually something fun for everybody. It's been a rough year for Hollywood and the movies. Most movie fans have had to endure the constant barrage of repeats, rewatching old favorites, and the neverending list of postponed releases. Video rental stores closed down, Family Video closing their entire chain. But, there's finally hope on the horizon as the movie theaters slowly get back to normal, production on future works resumes, and a smattering of new release movies finally arrives in theaters. Chaos Walking is one of those much-needed escapes from our still dismal realities that the movies have to offer.

In the distant future, man has begun settling other planets and space exploration has evolved. Todd, played by Tom Holland (Spiderman, Avengers Infinity War), lives in a world where there are no women. Raised by two fathers, Todd, like the rest of the men on the planet, can see the thought of man. Todd struggles to live his life and control his thoughts as he daydreams, thinks of other things as he works, and tries to become a man. His days are spent working the fields with his father and surrogate father. His free-time spent roaming the woods with his dog Mache, trying to focus in a world of violent men.

There's little promise in Todds' world until Viola (Daisy Ridley of Star Wars Force Awakens), crashes on the planet, her ship part of the next wave of settlers. Viola is the only survivor of an ill-fated survey mission, sent down from a ship of four-thousand people, to make contact with the settlers and prepare for the next wave.

Having never seen a woman Todd finds Viola stealing from his farm but feels compelled to help the girl, to protect her from the settlement, and the two are thrust together as the true intentions of Mayor Prentiss (Mads Mikkelsen) become apparent. When Mayor Prentiss loses control of the girl, she finds her way back to the farm, and Todd. As Todds' elders bless his need to help her, to help find a way for her to contact her people, the Mayor and his troops arrive, and the two go on the run. As Todd and Viola make their way across the country, Todd learns about Viola and Viola learns about things like rain, trees, and life on a planet after being born aboard her ship, during the trip through space.

Todd and Viola find their way to their destination, being hunted by an insane preacher from Todd's village as well and the mayor and his men. Todd must face some harsh truths about the men of the village he was raised in, including the truth about his father's deceptions over the years, and find a way to keep Viola from falling prey to the mayor, his men, or the preacher.

Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley play off of each other well and have excellent chemistry in this dystopian world that leads Holland's character Todd on an adventure of a lifetime. Daisy's character, Viola, finds herself the target of a manhunt by the same group of men that once killed the entire female population of the village Todd calls home. The two of them must learn to trust one another if they're going to survive being hunted and the harsh trek across through the wilderness. Which, is complicated by the fact that every young man's thought about the first pretty girls he sees are visible to the girl he's traveling with.

In the end, Todd faces the truth of his life, the secrets of his village, and finds his way to "be a man", something he struggled with in his head throughout the entire movie. Chaos Walking is the spring adventure story, drama, and piece of science-fiction that we've all been craving throughout the Hollywood shutdown. Ty in a teenage romance story and Chaos Walking has got something in it for any movie-going fan desperate to get back to the theaters.
