Being entertained is something people look forward to daily. Many businesspeople noticed so they took the initiative to satisfy the audience by creating entertainment services. Netflix and movie theatres are two resources people use for enjoyment. Netflix is a streaming service where people watch content such as movies and television shows. The business has expanded since it first came out in 1997. Initially, it was rent by mail company and was only available in America. A movie theatre is a place that is open to the public where you can sit back, relax, and watch a movie. They have been here for over a century. John P. Harris and Harry Davis were the first people to open the common type of movie theatre in 1905. From Netflix to movie theatres, both entertainment outlets have differences in availability, cost, and recreation that are beneficial to audiences.

Having the freedom to watch a movie or series varies with Netflix and movie theatres based on availability. Since Netflix is an online company it has an app which means the content is right at the person's fingertips. It gives consumers the opportunity to access it whenever, wherever. The app has a feature where people can download a show or movie onto their phones. This would be helpful when, for example, someone is traveling and does not have an internet connection while they are on the go. Someone would be able to watch material when they have a little time to spare or to themselves. Also, since it is available to them at any time the person can set their own scene and be in control of their environment. If someone decides they want to watch the movie of their choice naked in the comfort of their own bed, they could because they have the opportunity to do so. However, with movie theatres that is not the case. A movie theatre does not have the convenience of being at home. When an audience wants to see the new movie that just came out, they must go to the actual movie theatre. There are viewing rooms that screen different movies so people that are watching the same movie are in the same room. The setting is not in the buyer’s control since it is something that is supposed to be for everyone. There are a lot of movie theaters in the world that people can go to, but the commute could be an issue. The different types of obtainability’s lead to a chain reaction with the characteristics of Netflix and movie theatres.

When it comes to money people never want to pay more than they have to and they want to get their money’s worth. The two entertainment services have different styles of payment. Netflix offers a subscription option. Buyers can get a thirty-day free trial then begin paying a monthly fee, starting at $8.99, which varies depending on their plan. There is a “Basic Plan”, which is where Netflix lets the consumer stream movies and shows on one device at a time. The “Standard Plan” is where the buyer can stream movies and tv shows on two screens at a time. Lastly, there is the “Premium Plan” where the customer is able to stream on four devices at a time. A Netflix customer would get a lot of options since it has tv series, movies, and specials. Netflix does not offer discounts but some companies like T-Mobile do have deals for its customers. When someone wants to go see a movie, they must purchase a ticket every time. Movie ticket pricing depends on the movie theatre, but a ticket is usually around the price of $9-12. Some movie theatres are more luxurious, they have reclining chairs and dine-in services which would add extra fees. Movie theatres have discounts based on age, time and day of the screening, and military status. Senior citizens and people apart of the military get some money off. Also, at AMC movie theatres, on Tuesday’s tickets are $5 and they have matinee shows which are cheaper as well. Some theatres have reward cards where a buyer could have a chance of getting a free movie ticket depending on how many points they have earned. At Holy Cross Hospital employees get discounted movie ticket passes that could work on any movie. When it comes to these two branches of entertainment money is a factor in the different styles of experiences.

Netflix and movie theatres showcase different aspects of recreation. If someone where to want to go on a date or hang out with friends but could not decide on staying home and watching Netflix or going out to watch a movie, there are things that could help them make a decision. Netflix dates have a term called “Netflix and Chill” which insinuates something sexual. When using Netflix to spend time with friends it could be broadened to a sleepover, baking cookies before watching the movie, etc. Whereas going to the movie theatres as a date is more likely to be innocent and harmless. Hanging out with friends at a movie theatre is more straight forward, people would go watch the movie, maybe get something to eat, and they would go their separate ways. Netflix could give someone the excuse to stay in while movie theatres could give someone the excuse to go out.

Netflix and movie theatres are different takes of a response to the need for entertainment. The three parts of the services that make them contrast reach different audiences and from there it is up to the consumer. People want things to be in their favor. They want to be satisfied and happy especially if they are paying for it. Since people have different schedules, financial statuses, and definitions of fun Netflix and movie theatres deal with those categories differently.
