Netflix Movie Review: 'Uncorked'

Good day, everyone!

You missed me?

I hope everyone had a great day today during this troubling time.

Today, I will be discussing a lighthearted Netflix film called "Uncorked".

"Uncorked" is a drama film that was written and directed by both Prentice Penny and Netflix. The film stars Courtney B. Vance, Niecy Nash, Mamoudou Athie, Sasha Compere, Kelly Jenrette, Matthew Glave, Matt McGorry, and Gil Ozeri. Here is the premise of the film by IMDb:

"Elijah must balance his dream of becoming a master sommelier with his father's expectations that he carry on the family's Memphis BBQ joint."

I'm very grateful for Netflix for giving us something to watch. The film was actually good. "Uncorked" was released on March 27th and was curious to see this film. Even though I am not a wine type of guy, I appreciate a good movie that involves wine. I like this movie and was drawn to the relationship between father and son.

The film was relatively decent.

Courtney B. Vance always commits to his roles and his performance was stellar. The father and son relationship was the center of this film. The relationship between Elijah and his father was strained, which made sense given each character's given motivations.

The entire film, the father keeps downplaying Elijah's dreams of becoming a master sommelier. Overall, Courtney's performance was solid. Thank God for Elijah's mother (Niecy Nash), who always supported Elijah's dream to becoming a master wine sommelier.

Mamoudou Athi's performance was also good. Athi was very restrained, but doesn't shy away from emotional beats when called upon. The chemistry between Elijah and Tanya went extremely well. The courtship was really cute between Elijah and Tanya. Elijah's buddy, Richie, was a comedic relief in this film. I really liked the title of this film. Some people may not like it, but it's very original.

What stood out to me in this film is when the mother send $1,500 to help her son Elijah pursue his dream to become a master sommelier. Also, what stood out to me was the multiple hip-hop sound tracks. My family and I was having a blat jamming to them.

There was a scene in the movie where Elijah is going through some heavy, emotional stuff and how it was edited, went really nicely. Even though the film was a bit dull at times, it got some solid performances. The film taught us how to pursue our dreams and never give up.

This is a type of movie you can watch over and over again. If you don't like this film, you don't have to watch it again. Since we are in "Quarantine mode", its time you movie watchers watch films you haven't seen before. Explore films that intrigue you and see if you like it.

Why not, right?

Rate

I am going to give "Uncorked" a rating of 9/10.

What did you guys think about this film? What is your favorite wine movie of all time?

I hope you guys enjoyed this film as much as I did. Also, I hope this movie taught you how to overcome obstacles to get where you want to be in life. Never lose sight of who you are during this process. It can be very hard and stressful at times. This road is not for the faint of heart, but is for those who endure the end.

This is my review of "Uncorked".
