Update (May 17, 2017): Netflix announced that it has ordered a new season of Arrested Development with the entire original cast returning, alongside creator Mitchell Hurwitz and executive producer/narrator Ron Howard.

It's been two long years since Arrested Development executive producer Brian Grazer said he was working on 17 new episodes. Alongside that, Ted Sarandos, the chief content officer for Netflix, told reporters that securing a deal for a fifth season was a long and complex process. And still, we've waited.

Fortunately, our patience has been rewarded. Last Friday, Jason Bateman sent out a tweet that had all fans high-fiving:

The original Emmy Award-winning series, which aired on Fox from 2003-2006, garnered an astounding 58 awards during its three-season run, but the statues still couldn't save it from cancellation. Netflix revived the show in 2013 for a fourth season, which consisted of 15 episodes and ended on a cliffhanger. Fans weren't as happy with the fourth season due to its lack of group connection that was so prevalent in the first three seasons.

In fact, Netflix has addressed this exact criticism in a new tweet:

Perhaps Season 5 will prove more popular with fans. The Los Angeles Times reports:

After years of teasing, the dark comedy will return with its marquee cast as well as series creator Mitchell Hurwitz in 2018, the streaming service announced Wednesday.
“In talks with Netflix we all felt that stories about a narcissistic, erratically behaving family in the building business — and their desperate abuses of power — are really underrepresented on TV these days,” Hurwitz joked in a statement. “I am so grateful to them and to 20th TV for making this dream of mine come true in bringing the Bluths, George Sr., Lucille and the kids; Michael, Ivanka, Don Jr., Eric, George-Michael, and who am I forgetting, oh Tiffany. Did I say Tiffany? — back to the glorious stream of life.”

Actors Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, Jeffrey Tambor, Jessica Walter, Will Arnett, Tony Hale, Portia de Rossi, David Cross and Alia Shawkat will reprise their quirky roles and the painfully awkward shenanigans of the eccentric clan.

With the actors' busy schedules, it's been difficult coordinating the return of all the Bluths — but Season 5 will showcase the entire family, providing us with one more opportunity to see the best of dysfunction in action!
