Because we kind of have to...

2020. What a year, and yes I'm aware it's only March.

As the situation continues to escalate I hope that everyone is keeping healthy and safe. As our nation calls for social distancing, it has come to my attention that my absurd amount of Netflix consumption may actually be useful at the moment. I know many of you go a little stir crazy at home, so I am here to recommend some prime Netflix-watchery for your viewing pleasure. Here are some of my personal favorite Netflix watches, and hopefully something here sparks your curiosity making your time at home a little less quarantine and a little more staycation.

1. Mindhunter

This show is one of my absolute favorite Netflix originals. It follows the story of two FBI agents, Holden Ford and Bill Tench, as they begin the groundwork for what we know as the Behavioral Analyses Unit today. This show is a slow burner, and it keeps you at the edge of your seat from beginning to end as we watch Holden and Bill solve murder after murder, all the while interviewing some of the most dangerous serial killers of their time. There are currently two season available for your viewing pleasures.

2. Anne with an E

This show is a remake of the beloved Anne of Green Gables stories that we already know and love. If you are unaware of the story it follows Anne, an orphaned girl, that is adopted by the Cuthberts. You see Anne struggle with being accepted into her knew life, and the regular worries of a twelve year old girl. It also tackles important topics like slavery, racism, women's rights, and it is all done so through the eyes of our favorite red headed Anne. I really enjoy watching this show because of how wholesome it is. There is a sense of unity and family, and it never fails to make me smile. Even knowing how the story goes, I found myself scrambling for the remote between every episode to press play, unable to wait the few seconds it takes for the next one to auto-play.

3. Stranger Things

This show very near and dear to my heart. I spent the day before staring college in a bundle of nerves curled up on the couch watching season one when it came out. It follows the story of four friends as their world is turned upside down when one of them goes missing. Their friends disappearance is followed by the arrival of a mysterious girl that has telekinetic powers. With her help they struggle to get their best friend back, all the while trying to keep the girl hidden from those who would take her away. This show is a great watch to pass the time. The acting is well done, and the pacing is well set. The plot has enough action and drama to keep your eyes glued to your screen, and the humor throughout the show does a nice job of breaking up the heavier parts in the show.

4. Gilmore Girls

This show is tried and true. As you watch the mother-daughter relationship between Rory and Lorelei you find yourself falling in love with the town of Starshollow. This show is a great show to watch whenever you feel like being entertained, but don't necessarily feel like paying too much attention to details. This show is definitely character driven, so even if you walk away every once in a while the plot is not so difficult that you'd be completely lost. It a great watch, and just a lot of fluff when you feel like watching something entertaining, but not something that requires in depth analyses.

4. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

This is not a movie you should watch when you want to feel happy. This movie will leave you crying by the end, but will most likely make its way into your re-watch list. This movie follows the story of eight year old Bruno as his adventures with a Jewish boy that he befriends when they're father is moved near a concentration camp. When Bruno is out exploring he happens upon the camp, and it begins a sequence of events that have irreversible consequences. I would definitely suggest watching this one with a box of tissues.

5. The Umbrella Academy

This show is based off of the comics written by Gerard Way. It follows the story of seven adoptive siblings that were all born on the same day, at the same time, all different mothers. They are seven out of 100 babies born at the same time, and they all exhibit superpowers. They are raised by their father, a scientist more interested in their abilities that their actual well being. Follow the aftermath that ensues after their father dies, and their missing sibling reappears with dire news of the world ending.

Well, that's it for now. I hope you find some of these entertaining, and stay safe out there.
