Spoiler Warning: This article contains major Nadhi spoilers, including the complete ending, character deaths and the final fate of Kamal and Bharathi.

What Is Nadhi About?

Nadhi follows Kamal, a college student from a poor family in Madurai, whose biggest dream is to succeed in badminton, reach the state level and eventually secure a government job so he can support his family.

Bharathi, meanwhile, comes from a wealthy and politically influential family. Despite their completely different backgrounds, Kamal and Bharathi gradually become close friends while studying together. Bharathi eventually falls in love with Kamal, although Kamal initially remains focused on his career and sees her mainly as a friend.

Their relationship becomes dangerous because Bharathi's family strongly objects to Kamal's social background.

Kamal and Bharathi’s Relationship Explained

Kamal's father, Manik, works as an auto driver and has sacrificed a great deal for his children. Kamal therefore views badminton not simply as a sport but as his family's possible path toward a better future.

Bharathi becomes increasingly impressed by Kamal's talent and determination. Their college friendship grows stronger during a cultural-study trip, and Bharathi eventually realizes she has fallen in love with him.

The problem is that Bharathi's family is dominated by Raghavan, Ganesh and Kathir, who strongly disapprove of her friendship with Kamal.

Kathir's hatred becomes even worse after Kamal defeats him in a badminton match. His wounded pride, combined with caste prejudice, turns Kamal into a target.

Why Is Kamal Framed for Murder?

Kamal's life begins to collapse just when he receives the opportunity he has been dreaming about.

He is selected for a state-level badminton competition and is supposed to travel to Delhi. His father is so proud that he even buys Kamal a bike.

But Bharathi's family decides that Kamal must be removed from her life.

A carefully planned setup makes Kamal appear connected to the murder of another young man. False evidence involving Kamal's sister is planted, and Kamal is arrested.

The consequences are enormous. A criminal case could destroy Kamal's chances of getting the government job for which he has worked his entire life.

Devraj’s Real Plan

At first, Devraj appears to become Kamal and Bharathi's unexpected protector.

He helps Kamal obtain legal assistance and encourages Kamal and Bharathi to tell the media that they are in love and that Bharathi's relatives framed Kamal because they opposed their relationship.

However, Devraj is not acting out of kindness.

His real objective is political power.

Devraj wants the election ticket originally promised to Raghavan. By allowing the scandal involving Kamal and Bharathi to grow, Devraj damages Raghavan's political reputation while presenting himself as the reasonable member of the family.

Eventually, Devraj's strategy works.

Raghavan becomes willing to step aside and allow Devraj to receive the election ticket.

But Devraj still needs Bharathi.

Why Does Bharathi Marry Devraj?

Devraj convinces Bharathi that Kamal will remain safe only if she agrees to marry him.

Bharathi has already seen how far her own relatives are willing to go. They framed Kamal, threatened her and even considered killing her.

Believing that marrying Devraj will protect Kamal and save his future, Bharathi agrees.

Kamal is devastated when he learns about the engagement. Only then does he fully understand how deeply he loves Bharathi.

When Kamal tries to stop the marriage, Bharathi publicly claims that she is marrying Devraj willingly. In reality, she is sacrificing her own happiness to keep Kamal alive.

Nadhi Ending Explained: Why Does Kamal Kill Devraj?

Kamal is eventually expected to leave for Delhi by train.

Devraj secretly arranges for men to board the train and kill him, with the plan of making Kamal's death appear connected to heartbreak.

But Kamal unexpectedly leaves the train and confronts Devraj instead.

This confrontation finally exposes everything.

Devraj admits that he never genuinely cared about helping Kamal or Bharathi. He used their relationship to damage Raghavan politically and obtain the election ticket.

He also admits that marrying Bharathi was simply part of his plan.

A fight follows, and Kamal kills Devraj.

The tragedy is immediate: Kamal realizes that even though he fought to protect himself, killing Devraj has now destroyed the future he spent years trying to build.

Why Does Bharathi Burn Her Family?

The most shocking part of the Nadhi ending comes after Bharathi discovers that Raghavan, Kathir and the others still intend to murder Kamal despite her marriage to Devraj.

She realizes her sacrifice has achieved nothing.

Bharathi then decides that the only way to permanently protect Kamal is to eliminate the people who continue threatening him.

She opens gas cylinders inside the house and causes an explosion.

Raghavan and the others are killed.

Bharathi survives the explosion temporarily but suffers devastating burns.

Does Bharathi Die in Nadhi?

Yes.

Kamal later reaches the hospital and discovers Bharathi barely alive.

In her final moments, Bharathi tells Kamal that nobody will be able to interfere with his future anymore.

She believed that by removing those responsible for destroying Kamal's life, she could finally protect the man she loved.

Bharathi then dies.

It is the emotional climax of the movie.

What Happens to Kamal at the End?

Bharathi's sacrifice cannot save Kamal's future.

Because Kamal killed Devraj, he eventually ends up in jail.

The final scene shows him drawing images connected to badminton and Bharathi on the walls of his cell.

The ambitious young man who once dreamed about playing at the state level and getting a government job appears emotionally destroyed.

His love, his career and the future he wanted for his family are all gone.

What Does the Ending of Nadhi Mean?

The ending turns Nadhi into much more than a tragic romance.

Kamal and Bharathi are destroyed by forces surrounding them: caste prejudice, family honour, political ambition, manipulation and violence.

Kamal wanted nothing more than to build a secure future for his family. Bharathi wanted the freedom to choose whom she loved.

Instead, the people around them turned their relationship into a political and social conflict.

Devraj manipulates their love for political advantage. Bharathi's relatives allow caste prejudice and reputation to become more important than her happiness. And by the time Kamal and Bharathi fight back, the damage cannot be reversed.

The ending therefore leaves viewers with a deeply tragic message: hatred and obsession with social status can destroy not just a relationship but entire families.
