Halloween is fast approaching and I just wanted to appreciate the spooky girlies who make life interesting! So I decided to make a list of my top 10 favorite animated goth girls. Is yours on this list? Let's find out:

10. Gwen - Total Drama Island

Total Drama Island is a fever dream of a show that spawned several other shows that I can't even believe were made. It's undeniable, though, how much those shows added to pop culture via a slew of quotable moments, and characters like Gwen. The steely-eyed Goth girl clawed her way to victory, love, and triumph over her enemies (Heather).

9. Raven - Teen Titans

Sweet, dark, and tough- Raven was a gothic icon in a whole team full of icons, on one of the most iconic shows of my childhood. Moody and occasionally irritated with life at the tower, Raven was still very protective of her friends and of the family they'd all created. And we love a good grumpy girl and sunshine boy romance trope- Raven and Beast Boy for the win!

8. Rogue - X-Men: Evolution

Her comic origin was that of a sweet Southern Belle, but somebody in the writing room had their thinking caps on when they made this goth version of Rogue. She was still sweet, but that characteristic was hidden deep under moodiness, vulnerability, and overt self-criticism. We love a powerful, conflicted queen around here.

7. Thorn - Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost

She's a Hex Girl, but more than that she's an: environmentalist, wiccan, leader, and business woman that's bringing you into a Gothic world of Rock and Beauty! Thorn hasn't ever strayed from her roots in any of her iterations throughout the Scooby-Doo series, and we applaud the consistency.

6. Kylie Griffin - Extreme Ghostbusters

Oh, Extreme Ghostbusters . . . 1997! A wonderful time for character design! Kylie is intelligent, determined, and kickass. I consider her the first female ghostbuster before all others, and one of the best to ever do it. Scarred by a childhood encounter with the Grundel, Kylie is determined to keep the world safe- nevertheless she shows deep respect for ghosts, and has a genuine passion for her work.

5. Marceline the Vampire Queen- Adventure Time

Marceline the Vamp Queen, rocker and lover, the masses adore her! Cute and deadly, Marceline has seen a lot of crazy things in her time, but she's still able to open her heart and care deeply for her friends like Finn and Jake. Never afraid to bust open heads and shred a chord, is it any wonder she's on the top five of this list?

4. Sam Manson - Danny Phantom

Oh ho, Sam . . . Sam Manson? Now we're getting into some heavy stuff. Passionate, smart, rough and ready, Sam is best friend to Danny Fenton and Tucker Foley, two giant geeks with the bonus of one of them being able to go ghost! A hardcore ultra-recyclo-vegetarian, she's dedicated to learning more about the neitherworld, and keeping her two friends (sort of) alive.

3. Ember Mclain

Alright, this one might be more aesthetic than actual Goth- but I'm keeping her in! Ember Mclain had a tragic ending, sleeping through a house fire that killed her after staying up all night after being stood up. But as a ghost, she's a rockstar with scary good pipes! Mostly an enemy to Danny Phantom, she seeks to wreak havoc on the living, sell out concerts, and have the whole world know her sound.

2. Stocking - Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt

This bitch. What a Legend. It saddens me if I've come across anybody who hasn't heard of this anime, because it's- it's a work of art. Stocking, fallen angel and sister to the randy Panty, is a plushie toting, sweets loving, rebellious and bodacious bitch who's just here to kick ass and eat pudding . . . and they just ran out of pudding. Her angel outfit is my favorite of the two, and I just connect with her more on account of loving sweets and thigh highs. I think I heard rumors of a season two, and I really hope its true because I need more of her . . . !

1. Lydia Deetz - Beetlejuice

Now, come on, nobody else is touching the Queen of Animated Goths!!! Lydia Deetz, my beloved- sweet, awkward, dark, precious . . . in all seriousness the show never made sense to me because how could she be besties with Beetlejuice when he tried to marry her by force? But, hey, whatever, I was just glad to see this show when I was a wee brat. Lydia stays jumping into the unknown, the strange and unusual, and every encounter only fuels her power! Her mind!

I hope you enjoyed this quick little list, and maybe feel compelled to search up some of these shows for a nostalgic rerun. Remember, Halloween approaches so remember to check your candy and settle up those costumes. As always, Happy Haunting~!
