Dawn Lyn's husband speaks out on her journey

On October 13, 2022, actress Dawn Lyn, best known for portraying Dodie Douglas on My Three Sons, was hospitalized for five days. She had brain surgery to reduce the size of a non-malignant tumor. Nine days later, on October 22, she fell into a coma caused by bacterial meningitis.

The former child star remained comatose in the ICU for a month before regaining consciousness. Her husband, William John Reese, told TMZ she developed bacterial meningitis after being released from the hospital and was moved to a facility where she received daily therapy.

Reese also told TMZ that although insurance covered the initial surgery and paid over $2 million, he and his wife were responsible for the remaining balance. A GoFundMe was set up to assist with the medical expenses.

Leif Garret addresses his sister's condition

In November 2022, Fox News quoted Dawn's brother, actor, and singer Leif Garrett, a former teen idol saying the following.

My sister, Dawn, never wanted anyone to know about the surgery," he wrote. "Since it has been leaked on social media, I would really appreciate everyone’s understanding that it has already been a difficult time having lost both of our parents and a cousin recently. Please just keep my sister in your thoughts and prayers and respect our family’s privacy. Thank you."

Garrett added that they were also dealing with the recent deaths of both of their parents.

Dawn Lyn's TV brother speaks out

Stanley Livingston, who portrayed Dodi's older brother Chip Douglas on My Three Sons gave the following statement.

"Just found out my little TV Sis', DAWN LYN (Dodie), is in a COMA and fighting for her life," he wrote four days ago. "She had surgery recently to remove a brain tumor. Please pray for her to have a swift and full recovery.

The latest progress report from Tina Cole

Lyn's last EEG indicates she can eventually make a full recovery, and her progress is being monitored by her television siblings, brother Stan Livingston and TV Tina Cole (Katie Douglas). Coles stated on March 1, 2024, that she received a phone call from Lyn whose voice was raspy. She also shared the following.

“The last time I saw her, she was in a neurological rehab unit, and she still wasn’t responding a whole lot to me,” Cole shared. “So to hear her voice was just thrilling… We had a Christmas miracle when she came out of the coma… And they’re very hopeful that she’ll be home by Easter. Isn’t that great? Miracles do happen.”

As of March 25, 2024, Coles and Livingston still check on Dawn Lyn, and she remains hospitalized. There have been no additional updates from her husband or brother.
